Sogol is 17 years old, and many people know her from her street performances in Melbourne CBD and her music activities at VAS. She is passionate about music, singing, and songwriting, and music has always been a huge part of her life.
Sogol has a rare genetic condition called NF2, which causes tumors to grow in the nervous system and often appears during the teenage years or early adulthood. She is currently fighting 5 brain tumors. One of the tumors, located behind her eye and close to the brain, has recently become more aggressive and has started growing more rapidly. Due to the size and sensitive location of the tumor, there is a risk of rupture, but doctors cannot predict when this could happen — it could be in a month or in a year.
If the tumor ruptures, it could lead to blindness, brain damage, and even become life-threatening. Sogol has been living with severe and constant pain for nearly two years, and even strong pain medications do not fully relieve it. During this time, she has not been able to attend school or continue her music and artistic activities.
At the moment, two surgeries are definitely required, and a third surgery will depend on the outcome of the first operation. The total cost of treatment and surgeries is estimated to be close to $100,000. These funds will go toward Sogol’s treatment in Australia and potentially overseas.
For now, the family has started the campaign with a smaller initial goal so treatment can begin as soon as possible. There is still a lot of hope for Sogol’s treatment and recovery. Even sharing the post or the GoFundMe link can make a huge difference ❤️
