Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre & Kindergarten - For Children 6 Weeks to School Age

27/05/2026

This National Reconciliation Week, we acknowledge the importance of learning from our shared histories and continuing to build respectful relationships within our communities.

The 2026 theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation is something we can all contribute to through listening, learning, connection, and care. Not just this week, but every day.

At Grimshaw St Early Learning Centre, we are committed to creating an environment where all children and families feel a strong sense of belonging, respect, and inclusion.

Recently, children across our older learning environments have been deeply engaged in exploring the possibilities of wire as a creative and expressive medium. Inspired by conversations about nature, gardens, insects, and living things, the children have been designing and constructing their own garden creatures; bending, twisting, shaping, and problem-solving as they transform ideas into three-dimensional forms.

These experiences are grounded in the understanding that art is more than an outcome; it is a way of thinking, researching, communicating, and building relationships with materials, ideas, and one another. As children manipulate, connect, assemble, and transform materials, they develop confidence in expressing theories, solving problems, and making their thinking visible.

๐Ÿ World Bee Day is a reminder of the incredible role bees play in sustaining our environment and the food we eat every day ๐Ÿ

This is especially important within our Playground to Plate food garden program. From growing fruits and vegetables to harvesting and tasting, children are developing a real understanding of how nature and food are connected. And most importantly, an understanding of the mighty role our tiny bee friends play.

The team at Grimshaw St ELC came together for a rich professional learning experience led by pedagogical leader Ellen Carney from .

During the day, educators took part in a dedicated session focused on hands-on, process-driven learning through a clay exploration. This session encouraged us to slow down, engage creatively, and reflect on how open-ended materials support children to explore ideas, develop skills, and express themselves in meaningful ways.

There was a strong sense of collaboration throughout the session, with educators sharing perspectives, trying new approaches, and strengthening their understanding of intentional teaching within early childhood practice.

Ongoing professional growth is an important part of who we are. Experiences like this support us to stay curious, reflective, and connected as a team, ensuring we continue to provide high-quality learning environments for children and families.

A sincere thank you to Kelly for facilitating such an engaging and thought-provoking session.

A couple of weeks ago, our children began creating bug hotels with Rowan. Today, weโ€™re proud to share their finished pieces, thoughtfully designed and ready to support local insect life. We can't wait for our first bugs to move in! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒผ

This ANZAC Day, we pause to remember and honour the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served and continue to serve.

We reflect with respect and gratitude, acknowledging their legacy and the freedoms we are privileged to have today.

The children have been showing a lot of interest in watching Chef Maria and Billie cook. They love coming over to ask the chef questions about what theyโ€™re making.

Some of the children really enjoy being our little taste testers ๐Ÿฅฆ, sometimes trying small pieces of bread or vegetables that Maria is preparing at the time. Itโ€™s such a lovely, natural way for them to explore new foods, build curiosity, and feel involved in whatโ€™s happening in the kitchen. ๐Ÿž๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿ…๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ
