๐ **Celebrating NAIDOC Week at ILO Hampton Park! ** ๐
NAIDOC Week is a special time for us to recognize and celebrate the rich history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
This week, our toddlers have been exploring their creativity by making Aboriginal artwork using natural resources. ๐จ๐ฟ They had so much fun experimenting with colors and textures to create beautiful pieces!
In the Kinder Room, our Educator introduced the children to the cultural history of the boomerang ๐ช. The kids were fascinated to learn about its significance and then got hands-on with dot painting, using natural materials to decorate their very own boomerang crafts. ๐จโจ
Join us in celebrating NAIDOC Week and fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous culture with our little ones.

๐ **Exploring Shapes and Geometry at ILO Hampton Park!** ๐
At group-time, our teaching team introduced shapes using "Pete, the Cat: Learn About Shapes" via technology. The children learned to identify and recognize 6 basic shapes: rectangle, triangle, oval, square, star, circle, and diamond. This activity supports their mathematical concepts, particularly in geometry. ๐โจ
During the day, we extended this learning with a fun geometric shapes activity. The children engaged in play, creating and designing their own masterpieces using 2D shapes. Their enthusiasm and creativity were truly inspiring! ๐จ๐บ๐ต
This aligns with the EYLF 2.0, promoting young maths and creative thinking. Join us in celebrating these wonderful learning moments! ๐๐

๐ฟโจ **Celebrating Indigenous Culture at ILO Hampton Park!** โจ๐ฟ
At ILO Hampton Park, we are dedicated to fostering an understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Responding to this year's Reconciliation Week theme, "Now More Than Ever," our children are engaging in a variety of learning experiences to immerse themselves in Indigenous culture.
Through Storybooks, arts and crafts, small-world scenario plays, and a matching game with Aboriginal art symbols, our children explore the rich traditions and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. These learning experiences nurture their creativity and deepen their respect and understanding of Indigenous heritage.
# # # Linking to EYLF 2.0 Learning Outcomes:
**Outcome 2: Children are connected with and contribute to their world**
These learning experiences help children connect with the broader community and develop a sense of respect and responsibility towards Indigenous cultures.
**Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators**
Through storytelling, games, and discussions about Indigenous cultures, children enhance their language skills and ability to convey their thoughts and feelings.
We are proud of our childrenโs eagerness to learn and embrace the rich cultural heritage of Australiaโs First Peoples. Together, we are nurturing a generation that values and respects the diverse cultures that make up our community.

๐ฟโจ **Celebrating National Reconciliation Week at ILO Hampton Park!** โจ๐ฟ
As part of this year's Reconciliation Week theme, "Now More Than Ever," we had the privilege of welcoming two Elders from our local Indigenous community, Uncle Steve and Uncle Philip.
They shared the significance of the Smoking Ceremony with us. Uncle Steve demonstrated the traditional method using native plants like Grass Tree and Cherry Ballart, explaining how clean smoke is created to keep away flies and mosquitoes. Our pre-schoolers actively participated by gathering leaves from the garden. Dorothy, Isaac, and Emma were excited to smell the sweet aroma from the Grass Tree.
Uncle Steve also adorned Uncle Philip with a possum fur cloak called 'Oka,' made from the fur of twenty different possums from our area and Tasmania. Dorothy even shared that possums visit her garden! We were also fascinated by the Emu feathers in Uncle Steve's hat, which he kindly let the children examine.
To show our support for Wear It Yellow 2024, our children and educators proudly wore yellow ribbons, symbolizing our commitment to reconciliation and respect for Indigenous culture.
This enriching experience increased our knowledge and appreciation for Indigenous culture. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Uncle Steve and Uncle Philip for enlightening us.
