Here is a great resource to share with your parent community. I also think the video can be used as a hook in your classrooms. The Algorithym Disrespect, is an interactive educational tool, simulating the average young person's online experience. It is designed to reveal and educate adults on the new, hidden forms of disrespect. It includes parent guides and conversation starters, to help your parents tackle the issue in their own homes. https://www.respect.gov.au/algorithm-of-disrespect

We pay our respects to the Elders both past and present.

Did anyone else get a lovely Valentines Day gift from their students? 😍
This is a student-led initiative, with unique letters written to each domain and department at our school. Students also received individual letters on their lockers too. It's small acts like this that build school culture!

A colleague shared this with me, and was a great hook to use in our year 9 Mental Health lesson, to discuss validation, empathetic listening versus listening to identify problems and problem solve. Both characters have valid points to be made. Listening and being heard are often challenging, this short video nails it.
It's Not About The Nail "Don't try to fix it. I just need you to listen." Every man has heard these words. And they are the law of the land. No matter what.

All about me and HPE.AND.HHD
Hey everyone. My name is the Sara, the creator of teaching and learning materials on this page that support you and your students. I have been a Secondary Educator for 10 years, spending most of my time teaching in a Secondary School in Victoria. Throughout the years, I have held a range of roles and responsibilities, including Health Learning Leader, Teacher Trainer in Respectful Relationships facilitator with the Department of Education and Training, and a stint at the VCAA as a Specialist Health teacher, facilitating professional development around Victoria.
Last year, I was asked to teach at various Universities in Melbourne, in the space of Secondary and VCE Health and PE. I love creating teaching and learning resources that explicitly address the curriculum. I firmly believe that HPE has the greatest impact on the lives of our young people, giving them the knowledge, skills AND confidence to navigate what life throws at them.
Collaboration, understanding one’s self, developing empathy, using personal strengths and knowing where/how to access and use credible health information are at the forefront of everything I create. We cannot understand another person’s perspective, or work towards helping one another, unless we know ourselves, communicate, listen, share and act accordingly. Skill development is far more important than knowledge alone. Do your students have the knowledge, skills and confidence to navigate life after they have left your classroom?
If you need some advice, support or a suitably qualified mind to bounce ideas off, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
