Our four-year-old kinders enjoyed their first visit to Mayflower Aged Care for the year, sharing special moments with the residents through play, storytelling, and conversation 💛

One group had so much fun participating in a lively game of balloon volleyball, while another group listened closely to a resident, who was once a teacher, as she shared a story using kangaroo and wombat puppets. Children showed curiosity and confidence as they asked questions, shared laughter, and learned new things alongside the residents.

It was wonderful to see children building warm relationships with members of the wider community through these shared experiences. Through play, communication, and storytelling, children strengthened their confidence, sense of belonging, and understanding of others in meaningful and engaging ways 🌿✨

Our Nursery team has been using visual cards to support our young learners in understanding the rhythm of their day 🌿

By providing clear and consistent visual cues, young toddlers begin to anticipate what comes next, helping them feel more confident and secure in their environment.

Educators pair the visual cards with children’s photos, supporting them to recognise and interpret visual texts while connecting to their own experiences. This nurtures early literacy, symbolic thinking, and communication skills ✨

Over time, children follow the steps, copy actions, and begin to complete everyday tasks independently—building confidence, agency, and a sense of belonging 🤍
