If you've missed the boat, you were too late to take advantage of an opportunity. It doesn't mean a real boat! It means you didn't act quickly enough!

✅ Definition:
Miss the boat = to miss an opportunity because you were too late or didn't act in time.

💬 Example 1:
I hesitated too long to apply for the scholarship, and I missed the boat.

💬 Example 2:
We wanted to buy concert tickets, but we missed the boat; they sold out in minutes!

This is one of the most common English idioms used by native speakers, and it's perfect for everyday conversations.
