I teach kids how to code in a fun and engaging way! šŸŽ® We create games in Roblox and Minecraft šŸš€

24/10/2024

Hello everyone šŸ™‚

I am offering computer coding classes for neurotypical and neurodivergent children from ages 6 to 18 over Zoom. Coding is a valuable skill for young learners and I can provide personalised and effective classes to help your child learn. Whether they are just starting out or have some experience, I can tailor the lessons to their needs and goals.

I teach several programming languages based on experience and interest:

Roblox studio:

- Create their own games for Roblox using Roblox Studio [https://www.roblox.com/create](https://www.roblox.com/create).
- It involves a great mix of 3D design, game design, coding and animation.
- Extremely relevant if they’re interested in game design, as the software is very similar to what the professional game companies use.
- Their friends can all play the games they create.

Python and/or Javascript:

- These are the two most popular programming languages and are used by all of the largest tech companies.
- Python is primarily used for science and artificial intelligence, while Javascript is used to build websites and apps.
- The reason is say ā€œand/orā€ is that the fundamentals of programming can be transferred between languages, so it’s good to try both. I personally use both of them daily to create websites.
- In either of these languages I’d start by teaching simple fun graphic games and then tailor it based on interest.

Minecraft Education Edition:

- The education edition of Minecraft has ā€˜block coding’ built into it. This allows children to learn programming fundamentals by putting visual blocks together, think the ā€˜lego of coding’. [https://education.minecraft.net/en-us](https://education.minecraft.net/en-us)
- You’re also able to code in Javascript or Python within Minecraft, which allows a nice transition from block coding.
- I’ll teach them programming fundamentals by making ā€˜1000 tnts, rockets that fly, lightning superpowers, build giant pyramids and many more..’
- We’ll also create custom blocks and monsters with different skins and behaviours.

Scratch:

- Scratch is a ā€˜block coding’ language which is perfect for beginners. There’s a huge range of games children can create while learning the fundamentals. [https://scratch.mit.edu/](https://scratch.mit.edu/)

*for any older teenagers I’m happy to teach specific employable skills such as ā€˜AWS cloud, Github, artificial intelligence, React, Node JS, basic data science’ in Python’.

About me:

- I teach children coding, and also code web applications. Some of the sites I’ve made are [www.captok.ai](http://www.captok.ai) and [www.songdonkey.ai](http://www.songdonkey.ai).
- I’m from New Zealand but now live in Melbourne, and enjoy playing music and previously used to build acoustic guitars.
- I’ve got a Victorian working with children check.

The cost is $70 per lesson or $40 for group lessons, and all sessions are 1 hour over Zoom. I’m more than happy teach a free half-hour lesson to see if my classes are a good fit.

If you're interested, please feel free to get in touch by message or calling 0421 643 903 šŸ™‚

Thank you,

Ben
