The Big Freeze @ GHPS, presented by the Junior School Council
Thank you to our wonderful Junior School Council (JSC), along with our community of students, families, and staff, who came together to raise money for MND.
The water temperature dropped from 14°C to 1.5°C once the ice was added, and our hot tea and chocolate fairies were on hand to help warm everyone back up!
We appreciate everyone's support in making this event such a success. 💙❄️
$1319.45 raised for this important cause!

Are you free tomorrow night (Tuesday 9th June) at 7pm? If so, please consider coming along to the PA meeting in the staff room. We will be planning our next big social event, Bogan Bingo, among many other fun and exciting things for our kids and wider school community.
Our PA will be saying goodbye to several members in the next year or two as their children head off to high school. The only way to continue the GREAT work our PA do (raising much needed funds for our school and creating community connectedness) is with the support and involvement of our families.
Please consider coming along to see what it’s all about 😊 Hope to see you there!

The Year 1s had a magnificent day ‘stepping back in time’ to experience what life was like in the past. We travelled back many hundreds of years to learn about what Wurundjeri land was like and how the land was cared for and used. We enjoyed a walk to look at animals from that time, including kangaroos and emus, and even learnt a traditional way of calling the emus. Moving forward to about 300 years ago, we experienced what family life was like in the past. We discovered that toilets were outside and toilet pots needed to be emptied daily! There were no fridges or televisions, and family entertainment included listening to the radio or gathering around the gramophone. We loved listening to the music it made and somehow managed to fit our 2026 dance moves to the tunes! We also learnt about how words were printed and had a go at our own printing. It was surprising how much we enjoyed the chores! We churned cream to make butter, used a carpet sweeper to clean the house, and washed clothes using a washboard.
School life in the past was also very different. We sat at old-fashioned desks, used quills to write, and learnt that Maths was once called arithmetic. We discovered that children were expected to be “seen and not heard” and that everyone had to learn to write with their right hand. Outside the schoolhouse, we played fun traditional games including throw the gumboot, horseshoe throwing, hula hoops, and bowling. It certainly made us wonder which school we would prefer!
What a wonderful way to spark our curiosity for our new Inquiry History unit as we begin learning about life in the past and how things have changed over time. We look forward to learning even more.
Our beautiful Year 2 Abstract Landscapes, inspired by Melbourne Artist Belinda Stone. Absolutely stunning masterpieces by our young artists 😍

In our Year 3/4 Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, students have been exploring the concept of control and learning what self-control looks and feels like in everyday situations.
Using bubbles as a fun metaphor, students first had the chance to pop as many bubbles as they liked. Then came the real challenge… trying their hardest not to pop them, even when the temptation was right in front of them!
Through engaging collaborative games and hands-on activities like this, students are developing important lifelong skills such as:
• self-control and impulse management
• emotional awareness
• resilience and perseverance
• teamwork and communication
• problem-solving and reflection
Our SEL program provides students with opportunities to practise these skills in meaningful, age-appropriate and memorable ways that support both their wellbeing and learning.
