💐 Our Deepest Condolences 💐

It is with deep sorrow that we share the news of the passing of Mr. Vinayagamoorthy Thangathurai, beloved father of our dear friend and one of the founders of Mike’s of Melbourne, Rahavan.

Mr. Vinayagamoorthy Thangathurai was a highly respected Tamil teacher at St. Michael’s College, Batticaloa from 1974 to 1984. His dedication to education, love for the Tamil language, and passion for nurturing young minds left an indelible mark on generations of students.

He was not only a teacher but also a pioneer—collaborating with three like-minded educators to publish தளிர், a unique and original magazine that inspired creativity and cultural pride among students during the mid-1970s.

Today, the students and community of St. Michael’s fondly remember and honor his contributions.

On behalf of the Mike’s of Melbourne family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Rahavan and the entire family. May his soul rest in peace, and may you find comfort in the legacy he leaves behind. 🌹

**Back to St/Michael’s College with a blast from the past!**

Mikes of Melbourne member Vallu (Valluvan Logendra) visited our alma mater recently and he was pleasantly surprised! The place is looking tidy, clean, and fresh – a big improvement from the past.

Vallu even got a chance to inspect the recently renovated washrooms – major improvement there! And they're keeping them in great shape, which is awesome.

Huge shout to Principal Mr. Joseph for his fantastic leadership in transforming the school environment. Thanks also to the entire school management committee and staff for their hard work! A clean and updated environment can really boost the students' morale and encourage a sense of pride in their school.

Vallu couldn't resist a little fun while he was there, though. He laced up his sneakers and hit the basketball court for some hoops 🏀🏀🏀– those memories never get old, right?

Obituary: Mr. Leslie Ignatius Sebastian ("Leslie Uncle")

We mourn the loss of Mr. Leslie Ignatius Sebastian, fondly known as "Leslie Uncle," a cherished member of Melbourne's Sri Lankan community. His recent funeral service was a moving tribute to a life filled with kindness and generosity.

Leslie Uncle began his education at St. Michael's College Batticaloa and continued at St. Joseph's College Colombo. After graduating from Colombo University, he became the Managing Director of Brown and Company, a prominent British firm.

Notably, he was the grandson of Mr. Thomas, a Governor of Batticaloa during British colonial rule. Batticaloa Thomas Lane stands as a testament to his grandfather's legacy.

The Sri Lankan community, especially St. Michael's alumni, deeply feel the loss of Leslie Uncle. His memory will live on through the countless lives he touched.

Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. May his soul find eternal peace.
