Our Kinder went to the Excursion to the Mullum Market for National Reconciliation Week. Although the weather meant the smoking ceremony could not go ahead, we were very lucky to have an Uncle from Wurundjeri Country visit and share a meaningful Acknowledgment of Country with the children using gum leaves and rhythm sticks 🪵🍃🥁
The children travelled safely on the bus and had lots of fun🚌💛 They enjoyed watching a lovely performance before sitting together in the shade for lunch, where they ate sandwiches, crackers, and apples 🍎🥪
After lunch, we visited the library where the children painted rocks and explored Aboriginal-inspired artwork activities 🎨🖌️🪨
They also had a tour inside the library looking at the aboriginal artwork and painting.
The children showed great curiosity, creativity, and respect while learning about culture and community.

As part of our farm theme this month, our little toddlers and nursery children were delighted to welcome Hudson’s grandma into the room for a special hands-on vegetable washing experience. This meaningful incursion provided children with the opportunity to engage in a real-life activity connected to their everyday experiences and learning about food, farms, and healthy eating.
Children explored a variety of fresh vegetables using their senses. They carefully observed the vegetables' sizes, shapes, colours, weights, and textures, making connections to the steamed vegetables they enjoy during lunchtime. The addition of sponges, water, and bubbles further enriched the sensory experience.
Throughout the experience, children demonstrated high levels of curiosity, concentration, and engagement. Many eagerly participated in washing the vegetables, squeezing the sponges, how to washing used sponges.
This incursion also strengthened connections between the centre, families, and the wider community. Having Hudson’s grandmother share her knowledge and time created a warm and meaningful learning experience that celebrated family involvement and cultural practices around food preparation.
