If you are shopping around for a Krav Maga school, look for an academy that includes elements of BJJ, boxing, or Muay Thai on their schedule. However, make sure they are actively integrating these styles into their self defence training rather than just running isolated combat sports classes. Otherwise, you are just taking a standard striking or grappling class, missing out on how to actually apply those techniques for real world self defense.
You should also ensure that live sparring is a regular part of the curriculum so you can practice against a resisting opponent. Just keep in mind that self defence sparring should look different than sport sparring. Instead of focusing on scoring points or winning a match by judges' decision, good Krav Maga sparring focuses on high intensity tactics designed to end a threat and escape safely as fast as possible.
