This week in my classroom, students have been introduced to their first digraph. Exciting times!!

Each day we review the sounds we have already learnt, handwriting strokes (using the Alphabet Animation slides from the free resource page), high frequency words and then practice decoding and encoding words using our grapheme focus of the week.

This week we are learning /ar/ as in car and in minutes I created a full set of /ar/ words and sentences, with coding to support students recognition of the new digraph.

As a class, students practice sounding out and reading new words, recognising that a dot is a single letter sound and a line is a digraph.

We then get out the mini whiteboards and practise writing words, with encoding slides made with the Teach Easy Slide Creators and the Teach Easy Coding (No glyph) font.
