Residential property management is a core role within the real estate industry. Property managers support rental providers in the day-to-day management of their property, while ensuring that renters have a safe and comfortable home.

In 2025, Consumer Policy Research Centre, in partnership with Tenants Victoria, the Real Estate Institute of Victoria and the University of Melbourne, was awarded a grant by the Victorian Legal Services Board + Commissioner to work in partnership with stakeholders from the real estate and community sectors to identify, grow and champion best practice property management over a three-year period.

The research paper ‘Lessons for Best Practice in Property Management’ is available at https://cprc.org.au/report/lessons-for-best-practice-in-property-management/

Erin Turner speaks to 2GB Radio about the findings of the Consumer Rights Confidence Index 2026.

05/08/2026

New research has found Gen Z are less aware of their consumer rights and less likely to act on them.

The Consumer Rights Confidence Index 2026 found a 39 point gap between Gen Z and Boomers when it comes to knowing and asserting their consumer rights.

The research also found:

- People with disability also have a lower confidence score (55) and said that cost factors were a major barrier to making a complaint.

- 63% of First Nations consumers experienced a breach of consumer guarantees or poor business practices overall (compared to 50% for others).

Erin Turner explains more - full report available in the comments.
