Woolworths Excursion 🛒🍓🫐

Yesterday our Kinder 2 Children enjoyed their second excursion to our local woolworths where they were able to pick out the ingredients needed to make their own afternoon tea.

Carefully making a list of items the children walked the aisles with their teachers to find their ingredients for their yoghurt berry delight for afternoon tea.

After selecting some strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and banana they headed to the yoghurt aisle and found yoghurt for everyone. As a special treat they stopped at the local cafe for a baby chino before heading back on the tram ready for the afternoon.

The children showed their cutting skills at afternoon tea time, taking turns to cut up the selection of berries and banana to add to their yoghurts for a delicious snack.

These excursions are an extension of the Inquiry learning taking place in the classroom, with children currently focused on ‘sometimes and all ways foods’ linking to our Nido Kinder Curriculum of Healthy Minds and Bodies.

🐍🦎Aussie Animal Wildlife Experience 🐸🐊

Today our Kinder 1 children had a wonderful incursion from Aussie Wildlife Encounters. Dan brought along a selection of Australian reptiles for the children to feel and look at as part of their inquiry learning on Australian Animals.

The children had turns to touch and look closely at the animals. From snakes and frogs to baby crocodiles and possums. The children loved this experience and spoke about it for the whole afternoon.

Having programs like this helps children connect their learning to real life learning moments and is another element of our Inquiry learning focus.

What is your favourite Australian reptile ?

🧘✨ Y.O.G.A T.I.M.E ✨🧘

This morning our Toddler 1 children and their teacher Emily enjoyed a wonderful morning Yoga session outside on the decking space.

Using the yoga mats the children were able to stretch, bend and reenergize their bodies for the day by copying some yoga poses.

Yoga is a wonderful way for children to build their physical strength, improve balance, and learn early emotional regulation.

📚 Book Week - A symphony of stories & dress ups ✨

At Nido Kingsbury this week we have seen an array of costumes come through our classrooms with children and educators embracing all things books.

We’ve had super heroes, princesses, magical creatures and wizards to space rangers and stick man.

Book week is such a wonderful time for children to get excited about reading and build on their literacy learning through the magic of books.

Where has your favourite book taken you?

⚫️🔴 ESSENDON FC FOOTBALL CLINIC 🏈

Last Week we were lucky enough to have the Essendon Football Club come out and deliver their Bomber Kids program for our Kindergarten Rooms.

The footy clinic focused on developing children’s motor skills, teamwork and school readiness through engaging, playbased activities aligned with our early childhood frameworks.

Our Kinder children had such a great time learning ball skills and all about footy. They were even lucky enough to try on proper gurnsey’s and pretend they were AFL players.

Playing sports is such a wonderful way for children to build their gross motor skills and helps support a healthy lifestyle.

🍃 KINDER WOOLWORTHS EXCURSION

Today our Classroom 2 children had their first excursion to our local Woolworths as part of their inquiry learning focus on healthy bodies and minds.

Today the group were able to catch the local tram to Woolworths, where they used their shopping list and found the items needed to make their afternoon tea.

During the excursion they discussed the sounds they could hear, shared their previous experience on the tram and even how they shop at Woolworths with their families.

This forms part of their learning on healthy minds and bodies with learning on nutrition and what foods are good for our bodies and what foods are a ‘sometimes’ food.

🐶 Ready. Resilient & Connected with Ruby 🐾

Our Classroom 2 children welcomed a new furry friend to our program last Friday as we have started our 8 week therapy dog program with Ruby the King Charles Caviler puppy.

Ruby will be coming into both our Kindergarten Programs over 8 weeks helping in our efforts to enhance emotion regulation in children and how engaging with pets and animals can help children find ways to express themselves and regulate their emotions in different ways.

We learnt about how Ruby is feeling when she shakes her fur, what it means when she is facing us or away from us and where she likes pats.

We are excited to see Ruby in two weeks time and learn more with her.

Did you know that when dogs shake their bodies they are shaking their worries away ?

👩‍🍳 SCONE FRIDAYS 🧑‍🍳

Today’s afternoon tea is delicious scones with jam and cream.

Cooking is a wonderful way for children to learn about mathematics in a real world experience. Measuring, pouring, combining and the fun of doing it together. What do you like to cook at home?

Maybe you would like to try making your own scones at home, use our recipe and enjoy ✨

INGREDIENTS:
- 3 cups self raising flour
- 80g Butter, chilled and cubed
- 1 to 1 1/4 cups of milk
- jam to serve
- whipped cream to serve

METHOD:
1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees. Sift flour into large bowl
2. Using finger tips rub in butter into flour until mixture resembles breadcrumbs
3. Make well in the centre. Add 1 cup of milk. Mix with a flat-bladed knife until mixture forms a soft dough, adding more milk if required. Turn into a lightly floured surface. Knead gently until smooth (don’t knead too much or scones will be tough)
4. Lightly dust flat baking tray with plain flour
5. Pat dough into 2cm thick round. Using a 5cm (diameter) round-cutter, cut out 12 rounds. Press dough together and cut out remaining 4 rounds making 16 total. Place scones onto prepared baking tray. Add a milk wash to make them golden brown.
6. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and well risen.
7. Serve with Jam and Cream

Happy baking 👩‍🍳🧑‍🍳
