πŸ’‘πŸŒ Learning About Electricity and Sustainability πŸŒπŸ’‘

Our Toddlers and Kindergarten children have recently been exploring the important topic of electricity and how we can all make a difference by using it responsibly.

As part of our Sustainability Program, our Sustainability Officer, Sharlene, has been visiting classrooms and engaging the children in meaningful group-time discussions about where electricity comes from, how we use it every day, and the simple actions we can take to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

Through conversations, observations, and hands-on learning experiences, the children have been sharing their ideas about ways to save electricity, including:
πŸ”Œ Turning off lights when they leave a room
πŸ’» Switching off devices when they are not being used
🌞 Making use of natural sunlight during the day
πŸšͺ Remembering to close doors to help maintain comfortable room temperatures

These discussions encourage children to think critically about their impact on the environment and help them develop a sense of responsibility for caring for the world around them.

By introducing sustainability concepts from an early age, we are empowering children to become active participants in creating a more sustainable future. It has been wonderful to hear the children sharing their ideas and making connections between their actions at the centre and what they can do at home with their families.

A big thank you to Sharlene for supporting our children to become thoughtful, environmentally responsible citizens and for helping to foster a culture of sustainability throughout our service. πŸ’šπŸŒ±

🌿πŸ”₯ National Reconciliation Week 2026 – All In πŸ”₯🌿

This week, our Junior Toddlers explored the meaning of connection, belonging, and community by working together to create a firepit in their sensory table.

The 2026 National Reconciliation Week theme, "All In", encourages all Australians to play their part in building respectful relationships and a shared future. Through age-appropriate experiences, our children are beginning to learn about the rich cultures and traditions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the importance of coming together as a community.

For thousands of years, fire has held deep cultural significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Gathering around a firepit has been a place for families and communities to connect, share stories, pass down knowledge, celebrate culture, and strengthen relationships across generations.

As the children worked collaboratively to build their own firepit, they explored concepts of teamwork, cooperation, and belonging. Through imaginative play and conversation, we discussed how gathering together creates opportunities to listen, learn, and share experiences with one another.

Just as a firepit brings people together, National Reconciliation Week reminds us that reconciliation is everyone's responsibility. By being All In, we can create spaces where every voice is valued, cultures are respected, and meaningful connections can grow.

β€οΈπŸ’›πŸ–€ We are proud to support our children's understanding of reconciliation through play, learning, and shared experiences that celebrate connection, respect, and community.

πŸš€πŸŒŸ Kinder Incursion – Rockets and Robots! πŸ€–πŸš€

Today our Kindergarten children had an exciting visit from the Museum in a Van – Rockets and Robots program!

Over the past few months, many of our children have shown a growing fascination with space, rockets, planets, stars, and how things work beyond our world. Recognising and responding to children's interests is an important part of our educational program, so we thought this hands-on incursion would be the perfect opportunity to extend their learning.

Throughout the experience, children explored concepts related to science, technology, engineering, and space exploration through engaging discussions, interactive activities, and real museum resources. They were encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, investigate ideas, and think like scientists.

The children were captivated as they discovered more about rockets, robots, and the incredible possibilities of space travel. Experiences such as these help foster curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love of learning.

We loved seeing the excitement on the children's faces as they shared their knowledge, explored new concepts, and let their imaginations soar beyond the stars! πŸŒŽβœ¨πŸŒ™

A big thank you to the Museum in a Van team for bringing this wonderful learning experience to our service and helping us inspire the next generation of explorers, engineers, scientists, and dreamers.

Our children have been engaging in meaningful learning experiences as we acknowledge National Reconciliation Week 2026 β€οΈπŸ–€πŸ’›

The 2026 theme, β€œAll In,” encourages all Australians to take part in reconciliation every day through learning, understanding, respect, and action.

The children have been exploring Indigenous culture through creative and hands-on experiences, including creating handprints, learning Indigenous symbols, and being introduced to Indigenous words and language. These experiences help foster respect, inclusion, and an appreciation for the rich histories and cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are proud to support the children in building connections, understanding diversity, and learning the importance of walking together with respect and kindness. 🌿

As part of our sustainability program, we are excited to introduce a new project that encourages partnership between our centre and families πŸŒ±πŸ’š

We invite families to share any spare seasonal herb seedlings or seeds they may have at home. Through this hands-on project, the children will learn about sustainability by participating in the entire process β€” from planting and caring for the herbs, through to using them in recipes prepared in our kitchen. πŸƒπŸ‘©β€πŸ³

We also hope to create a small seedling library where any spare herbs can be shared with families, helping to build a sustainable cycle while promoting kindness, sharing, and community connection within our centre.

The attached photo shows some herbs kindly brought in from my home to share with the centre. Sharlene, our wonderful Sustainability Officer, has been working closely with the children to involve them in every step of the process and support their learning through meaningful and practical experiences. 🌿✨

We can’t wait to watch our little herb garden grow together!

This week, we were so lucky to have some of our amazing parents spare their time to join us for National Simultaneous Storytime πŸ“šπŸ’›

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual event hosted by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA), where millions of children, parents, and educators across Australia come together at the exact same time to read the same picture book by an Australian author and illustrator.

The children absolutely loved listening to the story being read by our wonderful parent volunteers and sharing this special literacy experience together. After the story, there was plenty of excitement as the children enjoyed extra time outdoors kicking balls around just like Luna Roo! ⚽🦘

Thank you to the parents who joined us and helped make this experience so meaningful and memorable for the children.

Our Kinder 3 children have been exploring an enquiry around the changing seasons and all things Autumn πŸ‚πŸ

As part of their learning, the children have been reading Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, which sparked wonderful conversations about nature, seasonal changes, and creativity.

Inspired by the story, the children created their very own β€œLeaf Man” masterpieces using fallen leaves collected from our centre garden, as well as leaves they gathered from their own gardens at home and proudly brought in to share. 🌿✨

This hands-on experience encouraged creativity, environmental awareness, and meaningful connections between home and our learning environment. We love seeing the children’s imaginations come to life through nature-based learning!

Sometimes the best learning moments are the spontaneous ones πŸ’›

Today, our wonderful chef Priya popped into the Senior Toddler room and initiated an impromptu yoga session with some of the children! πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈβœ¨

The children had so much fun stretching, balancing, and practising mindfulness together. Experiences like these help support children’s wellbeing, coordination, confidence, and relaxation β€” all while creating joyful connections throughout our centre community.

Thank you, Priya, for bringing such calm and happiness into the room today! 🌿

A Special Visitor Joined Us Last Night! 🐾
This little possum was spotted climbing our fences at sunset after closing time - perhaps checking in before starting their nightly adventures. Our very own tiny night guardian.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea β˜•οΈ πŸ’›

On Thursday 21st May, our service proudly hosted Australia's Biggest Morning Tea to support a wonderful cause. Each room prepared delicious breakfast and morning tea treats for our families to enjoy on their way to work, and it was such a lovely morning shared together as a community.

The event was a great success, and we would like to thank all of our families for their generous donations and support. Your kindness and contribution will help make a difference to those impacted by cancer.

We are so grateful to be a part of such a caring and supportive community.
