General Maintenance Person – Casual
Position Overview
We are seeking a reliable and practical General Maintenance Person to assist with the ongoing upkeep, presentation and general maintenance of our premises.
This is a hands-on casual position suited to someone who enjoys a variety of tasks, can work independently and is comfortable undertaking minor repairs, cleaning, gardening and general maintenance duties.
Employment Type: Casual Hours: Approximately 6–12 hours per week, depending on requirements Reports To: Management
Key Responsibilities
The General Maintenance Person will assist with a broad range of tasks, including:
· Minor painting and touch-up work
· Patching small holes, marks and minor damage to walls
· Changing light globes and other simple replacement items
· Minor repairs to fixtures, fittings, doors and furniture
· Changing tap washers and attending to minor plumbing-related maintenance where appropriate
· Moving and setting up tables, chairs and furniture
· Steam cleaning chairs and other furniture
· General indoor cleaning and tidying of maintenance areas
· Outdoor cleaning, including sweeping, pressure washing and removal of leaves and debris
· Basic gardening, weeding, pruning and general grounds maintenance
· Cleaning and maintaining outdoor furniture and areas
· Accepting and assisting with deliveries
· Moving and storing stock, equipment and supplies
· Removing rubbish and unwanted materials
· Identifying maintenance issues and reporting larger repairs to management
· Assisting contractors with access to the premises when required
· Undertaking other reasonable general maintenance duties as directed
Skills & Experience
The successful applicant should:
· Have good general handyman and maintenance skills
· Be comfortable using basic hand and power tools
· Have a practical approach to minor repairs and maintenance
· Be reliable, punctual and able to work with minimal supervision
· Have good attention to detail and take pride in keeping the premises well presented
· Be physically capable of undertaking general maintenance duties, including moving furniture and equipment
· Have good communication skills and be comfortable working around staff, members and visitors
· Understand when a task requires a qualified tradesperson rather than attempting work outside their skills or authorisation
Previous experience in general maintenance, handyman work, property maintenance, gardening or a similar role would be advantageous but is not essential.
Licences & Requirements
· Current Victorian driver's licence preferred
· Appropriate experience using basic tools and equipment
· Ability to follow workplace health and safety procedures
· Any electrical, plumbing or other licensed trade work must only be undertaken by appropriately qualified and licensed tradespeople
About the Role
This role would suit a semi-retired tradesperson, experienced handyman or practical all-rounder looking for approximately 6–12 hours of casual work per week.
The hours can provide some flexibility and will vary depending on maintenance requirements. The emphasis of the position is on completing the numerous small jobs that help keep the premises safe, clean, functional and well presented.
