End of year get together to celebrate our achievements over the year. Literacy sessions completed in new and old schools, welcoming new volunteers and dozens of books shared with classes. And making plans for 2024.

We read Benny Bungarra's big bush clean up and then students wrote their own story about a sea clean up. Fun to be this side of Zoom and in the classroom this time.

Using stories to promote literacy and sustainable practices. Through zoom we interacted internationally to create an e-book of local relevance. The work the students produced was turned into a book for use by students and the school.

With support from a Student Life grant from the University of Melbourne and the DHB Foundation, we have launched the "International Literacy Project". Our vision is to promote literacy, sustainability practices and a connection to place with school communities around the world.

In 2021 we interacted with two island schools in the Maldives and one school in Chile. We hope to expand our project to the following communities in 2022: India, Malaysia, Chile, East Timor, Japan and South Africa, as opportunities allow.

We welcome the involvement of students from the Melbourne Graduate School of Education as our project grows.

During 2021, through connection, engagement and participation, we have delivered 11 online literacy classes to two schools in the Maldives working with eight teachers, five year levels and over 150 students, which has led to the creation of 29 books.

This project is expanding in 2022 to schools in India, Malaysia, Chile, Thailand, Japan and South Africa. If you are interested and want to make a difference in your journey of teaching, join us!
