YARNING AND LEARNING: Throughout Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June), our little niños explored a range of meaningful experiences designed to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and perspectives.
Through creative arts, sensory play, and collaborative experiences, the children discovered the importance of respect, belonging, and caring for Country. Along the way, they engaged in thoughtful conversations about kindness, listening to others, and appreciating diverse ways of living, learning, and being.

COLOUR DETECTIVES: The Investigators explored an interactive colour sorting experience.
Using tongs to uncover hidden coloured blocks in the sand, children developed focus, coordination, and their pincer grip with each discovery. With growing concentration, they sorted each block into matching bowls, strengthening colour recognition and problem-solving skills.
This experience fostered patience, persistence, and teamwork, while supporting rich sensory exploration.

DISCOVERING SELF: Our babies at Niño ELA Ivanhoe have been drawn to a thoughtfully positioned mirror within their learning space.
With soft focus and quiet engagement, they reach out, smile, and observe subtle movements in their reflection. These tender moments nurture early self-awareness, as they begin to recognise themselves as individuals in the world around them.
The mirror has become a meaningful tool for sensory exploration, communication, and connection—offering a calm, comforting space for discovery.
These calm moments of early learning see our youngest niños explore both themselves and their surroundings through reflection.

CALM HANDS, FOCUSED MINDS: The Achievers have been exploring emotional regulation, learning to recognise their feelings and develop strategies to help them feel calm and in control, with playdough quickly becoming a favourite calming tool. As they squeeze, roll, stretch, and shape the dough, children engage in a soothing, mindful experience that supports self-regulation.
These moments of focused play create space to pause, reset, and reconnect, building lifelong skills for managing big emotions in positive ways.

CHOMP CHAMPS: A recent visit from the dentist became a meaningful learning experience for our little niños, guided by the Positive Health domain of our Positive Education framework. Through this visit, children deepened their understanding of wellbeing and self-care.
The session explored how to care for teeth, the importance of daily brushing, and how nourishing food choices support strong, confident smiles. Through discussion, demonstration, and shared reflection, little niños were encouraged to ask questions, express their thinking, and build knowledge in a safe, empowering environment.
This practice reflects how learning unfolds at Niño ELA — through real-world connections and insights from experts that nurture lifelong skills, while fostering confidence, responsibility, and agency over personal wellbeing.

COLOURFUL CULTURAL CONNECTION: Our community embraced the spirit of Holi with a joyful colour run, filled with laughter and vibrant bursts of colour.
Holi, the Festival of Colours, is a Hindu celebration that marks the arrival of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and the triumph of good over evil, symbolising love, happiness, peace, and harmony. While Australia welcomes autumn, children fully immersed themselves in this meaningful tradition.
Beyond the festivities, the experience sparked rich conversations about culture, diversity, and tradition. Through shared moments of colour and connection, the children explored self-expression, strengthened friendships, and deepened their appreciation for the vibrant customs that enrich our world.
