National Reconciliation Week 🖤💛❤️

During National Reconciliation Week, children across all of our rooms participated in a variety of activities that celebrated and explored Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories, and traditions.

Through art, storytelling, crafts, and group experiences, our children learned about the importance of respect, inclusion, and connection. We are proud to share some special moments from the week. ❤️

On the 20th of May, William, a firefighter from the Hoppers Crossing CFA, visited our kindergarten children to teach them about fire safety.
William spoke to the children about what to do in the event of a fire. The children learned that they should move away from the area where the fire is, call 000 for the fire brigade, and wait safely at the letterbox. He also explained that if there is smoke inside a building, people should crawl low to the ground to get out safely.
The children were very excited to learn about the special protective clothing and masks firefighters wear when putting out fires. They even had the opportunity to try on the firefighter costume themselves!
After the session, all the children went to the car park to explore the fire car and learn about the important equipment firefighters keep inside.
A big thank you to William and the Hoppers Crossing CFA for providing such an engaging and educational experience for our children!

Today, we had a special visit from Rina, who works with Greater Western Water, to teach the children how to save water. Rina began by introducing herself and explaining that her job involves helping to clean dirty water and send clean water back to our homes and childcare Centres. The children were asked where water comes from, and they excitedly replied with answers like “the pool,” “the beach,” and “the tap.” This led to a discussion about clean and dirty water and why it’s important not to drink dirty water. The children explained that drinking dirty water can make us sick or cause vomiting. Rina then engaged the children in an interactive activity identifying different ways we use water using pictures — watering the garden, washing the car, and cleaning our teeth. For each picture, the children discussed whether clean or dirty water should be used. During the discussion about brushing our teeth, the children learned that leaving the tap running wastes water. Together, we talked about more sustainable ways to rinse our mouths, such as filling a cup or a water bottle rather than letting the tap run continuously.

Next, the group explored how a hose works. The children said it was like a “water hose” or a “water tap.” Together, they discovered that to make water come out, you need to pull the trigger and connect the hose to the tap. They counted to three and helped Rina problem-solve when the hose did not work at first, demonstrating great thinking and collaboration skills. The children then met Sammy the Snake and enjoyed saying hello before reading a story about saving our precious water. Through the book, they identified ways to reuse water — for example, using leftover bath water or water from play to water the garden.

To finish the session, the children woke up Francis the Frog and sang a fun water-saving song, copying the actions and reinforcing their learning through music and movement.

International Firefighters' Day!

Yesterday, we celebrated International Firefighters’ Day with the children.

Our 4-year-old kindergarten children learned about the important work firefighters do to help and protect our community. We talked about the emergency number to call and safety around fires. It was great to see that some children already knew that we need to dial 000 in an emergency.

Next, the children watched a video about firefighters, which helped them better understand the topic. After that, they participated in a fun activity where they cut out a printed firefighter holding a water hose. They glued the cut-out onto a piece of white paper and then painted flames on it, creating the illusion that the firefighter was putting out a fire. This creative activity helped them learn how firefighters keep people safe.

As an extension of our celebrations for International Firefighters’ Day, we’re excited to share that we have invited the Hoppers Crossing Fire Brigade to visit us on 20 May 2026.

Today in our 4-year-old kindergarten room, we had a wonderful time exploring letter recognition through a range of fun and engaging activities!

In the morning, the children worked together on a large alphabet puzzle, supporting one another as they identified different letters. It was lovely to see their teamwork and growing confidence. Some children also practised writing letters on the whiteboard with teacher guidance, and many were able to recognise and form them with great success.

During group time, we continued to build on this learning through discussion, sharing ideas and reinforcing our knowledge of letters. Later, the children enjoyed a collaborative painting activity where they selected letters to paint and stamp onto a large sheet. This hands-on experience was a big hit and really helped deepen their understanding, even for those who needed a little extra support.

We’re so proud of the children’s enthusiasm and progress today!

This April, our 3-year-old kindergarten children have been exploring the fascinating world of measurement through hands-on play.

Using colourful rice, transparent cups marked with different levels, and a variety of scoops, the children have been busy experimenting and discovering. They filled cups to various heights, compared which were full or empty, and explored concepts such as heavy and light.

Through these playful experiences, the children engaged in meaningful conversations, where thoughtful questions encouraged them to share their ideas. They explored questions like - How many scoops does it take to fill a cup? Why is this one heavier? What happens if we add more?

These moments of curiosity and investigation are helping to build early mathematical thinking in a fun and meaningful way. We love watching their confidence grow as they explore, predict, and solve problems together.
