We were proud to be part of the Oakleigh South Primary school fete yesterday. What a great day.

At Connect: Literacy, Speech and Language Services, we’ve thoughtfully created a calm, welcoming clinic space in Ormond where children feel comfortable from the moment they walk in.
Every detail has been considered to support engagement and connection—including the artwork. We’ve intentionally chosen pieces that spark curiosity and conversation, helping to ease those first-session nerves and create natural opportunities for interaction.
After all, who doesn’t enjoy chatting about a giraffe blowing a bubble or a zebra wearing headphones? 🙂
These small moments often open the door to meaningful communication and help children feel at ease as we begin working together.

I often use magnetic letters as part of spelling activities, as they allow students to focus on word building without the added demand of handwriting. Reducing this cognitive load can make practice more accessible and effective, particularly for students who find writing challenging.
I recently found these magnetic letter packs at Kmart and was pleased to see that they include multiple copies of each letter, along with both uppercase and lowercase options. This is especially useful, as many standard sets only include one of each letter, which can limit opportunities to build words such as spell.
For parents, magnetic letters are a simple and practical way to support spelling at home. Keeping them on the fridge allows for quick, low-pressure practice during everyday routines, such as while preparing meals.

From recognising their first letters to reading their first sentence aloud, each step builds confidence, curiosity, and a lifelong love for learning.
With the right support and encouragement, children don’t just “learn to read,” they begin to enjoy it. 💛
Watching a child light up when they understand a story or proudly read on their own is truly magical.
Let’s celebrate progress, no matter how small, because every step forward counts!

Getting into the Easter themed activities.. My student enjoyed revising past spelling words with this Easter craft activity. It is so important to.keep revisiting previously leant spellings to ensure that they stick. Do you ever go back and revise on your kids old spelling lists? If not, pull out their spelling book, download a craft activity and get started 🐰
