📚Literacy Learning Beyond the Classroom📚

Our 4‑year‑old kinder group enjoyed another wonderful visit to the Library Truck last week. The children eagerly explored new books, shared stories with friends, and asked thoughtful questions that showed just how much their love of reading has grown.

These regular excursions deepen children’s learning in meaningful ways—nurturing early literacy, strengthening language development, and helping them recognise how community spaces like the library support learning, connection, and belonging.

📚 Book Week Celebration 📚
This week has been a wonderful opportunity for children to connect with stories, characters, and the joy of reading. Our rooms have been filled with thoughtful conversations, imaginative play, and plenty of smiles as children shared their favourite books and dressed as the characters they love.

Book Week reminds us how powerful stories can be in inspiring curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning.

🌟Sunshine, Science & Shadows🌟

Kinder turned science into sunshine and creativity this week as the children explored shadow drawing outdoors. With the afternoon light casting long, playful silhouettes, the children traced their friends’ portraits onto large sheets of paper—laughing as they noticed how shadows change shape, size, and direction.

Through this experience, they’re developing scientific thinking, observing cause and effect, experimenting with light, and building early understandings of how the sun creates shadows. They’re also strengthening fine‑motor skills, cooperation, and confidence as they work together.

🎨 When Art Meets Science: Toddler One Explores Magnets 🎨

Toddler One turned science into pure magic this week with their magnetic painting experiment. The children explored how magnetic force works by placing colourful magnetic shapes under a tin tray and moving them around. As they guided the shapes beneath the tray, the iron bar glided and twirled across the paint covered paper above, leaving behind playful trails and surprising bursts of colour.
It was messy, mesmerising, and full of excited discoveries as the toddlers realised they were controlling the movement from underneath the tray. A perfect blend of creativity, curiosity, and early scientific thinking. Beautifully aligning with VEYLF Outcome 4: Children are confident and involved learners, showing curiosity, persistence, and wonder as they explore new ideas.

B*H celebrated National Pyjama Day in support of the incredible Pyjama Foundation. This wonderful organisation gives children in foster care something truly life‑changing — a dedicated Pyjama Angel mentor who brings learning, confidence and connection into their world.

Our children and educators loved every moment, proudly wearing their cosiest, comfiest pyjamas while helping raise funds for a cause that makes such a meaningful difference. Thank you to everyone who joined in and supported this special day. 💛✨

🌱 Growing Together: Our Vegetable Garden Project 🌱

Our Kinder and Pre-Kinder children have been busy planting our very own veggie garden!
Together we planted pumpkins, broccoli and zucchinis, learning about how food grows and what plants need to thrive. Planting our own produce is a meaningful way for children to learn about sustainability. They begin to understand where food comes from, how living things grow, and why caring for our environment matters. Through watering, weeding and watching our garden change over time, children develop responsibility, patience and a deep connection to the natural world. This experience aligns with the VEYLDF – Outcome 2: Children Are Connected with and Contribute to Their World, as they engage in practices that support environmental awareness and sustainable thinking.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week🖤💛❤️

Last week our service proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week, honouring the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Throughout the week, children engaged in rich learning opportunities that connected them to Country and community. They explored Aboriginal songs, discovering rhythm, language, and storytelling. They collaborated on shared artworks, expressing identity and connection through colour, pattern, and symbolism. Our sensory play was inspired by nature, encouraging children to explore textures, materials, and elements that reflect the beauty of the land we live on.

🦋 Butterfly Incursion 🦋

Today our Kindergarten children were thrilled to welcome Butterfly Kidz, who visited with their incredible mobile butterfly house filled with beautiful Monarch butterflies. The children have been learning about butterflies throughout their program — exploring life cycles, habitats, and the important role butterflies play in nature — so this incursion was the perfect way to extend their knowledge.

The children confidently shared what they already knew about butterflies, including what they eat, how long they live, and the names of different species. Our presenter built on this learning by showing the children how to identify male and female Monarch butterflies and sharing fascinating facts about their life cycle.

One of the most magical moments was watching butterflies gently land on the children’s hands, shoulders, and even their heads. Their faces lit up with wonder, curiosity, and pure joy.

This hands‑on experience encouraged scientific thinking, inspired inquiry, and deepened the children’s appreciation and respect for the natural world.

Last week we were lucky to have one of our Toddler parents visit with her ambulance to share what life is like as a paramedic. The children were captivated as they explored real equipment, learned how paramedics help people in emergencies, and even stepped inside the ambulance to see where patients travel.

This hands-on experience helped children deepen their understanding of community roles and the people who keep us safe (VEYLDF Outcome 2: Community). It also encouraged rich conversations, curiosity, and confidence as children asked questions and connected the visit to their own experiences (VEYLDF Outcome 5: Communication).

🌿 The Resilience Project 🌿

Our 4‑year‑old Kindergarten children have begun exploring The Resilience Project this term, learning about gratitude, empathy, mindfulness and emotional literacy through fun, play‑based experiences. The program has quickly become a meaningful part of our weekly routine, supporting children to build confidence, strengthen friendships and understand their emotions in positive ways.

A much‑loved highlight has been Cozy the Koala, our wellbeing mascot. Each week, a child or educator gets the special job of taking Cozy home for an adventure. Families share photos, drawings or stories of Cozy’s visit, and these are celebrated during group time.
