National Reconciliation Week
Today, children learned about the Australian National Flag, the Aboriginal Flag, and the Torres Strait Islander Flag. Children explored the different colours, symbols, and meanings of each flag and then matched the flags during the activity. This experience helped children develop an understanding of Australia’s cultures and promoted respect, inclusion, and awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The activity also supported children’s matching, observation, and communication skills.

National Reconciliation Week – “All In”
Children explored the meaning of belonging, respect, and connection during our National Reconciliation Week experience. Through caring play with diverse dolls, hand-holding, and shared interactions, children learned the importance of kindness, inclusion, and celebrating different cultures.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and cultural resources created opportunities for children to develop awareness and appreciation of Australia’s First Nations peoples and cultures. Children showed gentle care, curiosity, and empathy while engaging in the experience together.
“Together we listen, learn, care, and walk together — All In.”

National Sorry Day
Today, children participated in a National Sorry Day handprint activity. They used red, black, and yellow paint to create handprints representing the colours of the Aboriginal flag. Children explored creativity through painting and discussed kindness, respect, and caring for others. This activity supported fine motor skills, sensory exploration, cultural awareness, and self-expression.
National Sorry Day is a day in Australia to remember and acknowledge the pain and suffering experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, especially the Stolen Generations — children who were taken away from their families and communities in the past. It is a day to say “sorry,” show respect, and promote healing and reconciliation.
