๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿ‘ถEgg-cellent Parenting Skills!๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿ‘ถ

Our Health and Human Development students have been getting a hands-on lesson in parenting recently!๐Ÿ“š

As part of Unit 2 AOS 1, students have been learning about prenatal, infancy and early childhood development, including the milestones we reach as we grow and develop.๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿง โœจ

To bring their learning to life, the class took on the challenge of caring for their very own โ€˜egg babyโ€™ for 10 days!๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง

The project gave students an insight into the skills and responsibilities of parenting, including the rewards, challenges and constant supervision that come with caring for a child.๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿผ

From decorating their egg babies and bassinets to keeping their โ€˜babiesโ€™ safe and supervised, the project was equal parts fun and challenging!๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿฅš๐Ÿ˜‚

The experience culminated in a very important award ceremony, with Nick receiving the โ€˜Golden Eggโ€™ award, Claudia taking out โ€˜Excellent Careโ€™ and Olivia N winning โ€˜Best Dressedโ€™!๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ‘‘

As Claudia W reflected, the project was a fun way to discover just how challenging parenting can beโ€”and a good reminder of the time, energy, love, presence, attention, care and focus they require.๐Ÿ‘ถ๐ŸฅšWell done students!๐Ÿ˜€

Spring Community Gardening Bee๐ŸŒป๐ŸŒค๐Ÿฆ

Inviting prospective, future, current and past members of our school community to join us for our upcoming Gardening Bee! Pop by for an hour or get stuck into a task for all three - just know you'll reap many benefits that come from spending time outdoors.๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฟ

Clear your mind & boost your mood - gardening can reduce stress and anxiety while giving your brain a break.๐ŸŒป๐Ÿง
Get active - digging, planting, weeding and mulching are great ways to exercise! You'll build great strength lifting wheelbarrows that's for sure!๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ
Improve focus & concentration โ€” being outdoors and working with your hands can help you reset and refocus. Hello Yr.12s...๐ŸŽฏ๐ŸŒณ
Build skills, confidence & resilience - thereโ€™s nothing quite like watching something grow from the seeds you plant yourself.๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ˜Š
Connect with others - our gardening bees are an informal and social opportunity to meet new people, strengthen connections, and learn from each other.๐Ÿค๐Ÿซถ
Give back to our environment - every plant we grow and every branch we mulch helps create a healthier, more biodiverse school environment. Now more than ever we need to do our bit!๐Ÿ๐ŸŒ๐ŸŒฑ

Whether youโ€™re an experienced gardener who could help manage the mulching machine or you're new to gardening but eager to learn.๐Ÿ’กPerhaps you're just super keen to plant seed or seedlings or you're a student who wants to put 'Environmental Stewardship' on your resume (hello Yr.9 & 10s) under 'Skills'. Regardless of your 'why', come along, chip in and feel connected.๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒผ

Lobbying & Lessons in Parliament๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

Recently, six of our Year 12 Eco Crew students โ€” Cielo, Samantha, Anna, Jack, Clarissa and Eva โ€” joined three students from MLC โ€” Christina, Hilary and Ivy โ€” at Parliament to meet with Shadow Environment Minister, Nick McGowan.๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿพโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿปโœจ

Their message was clear: stronger protection and funding for national parks, tighter logging laws, and more care for Country.๐Ÿชต๐ŸŒณ๐Ÿจ

After weeks of research and preparation, these motivated students delivered thoughtful, practical and passionate arguments for protecting our native forests and all living creatures.๐Ÿชบ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿฆ‰

Spending three hours after school in Parliament during a sitting week (!) gave the students a fascinating insight into the demands of political life and our democratic process โ€” while giving them a rare opportunity to advocate directly for issues they care deeply about.๐Ÿช“๐Ÿชพ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

They even had the chance to sit in the chamber and listen to speeches and debates, and then share a hot choc in the Parliament dining room!โ˜•๐Ÿซ–๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธ

Cielo reflected: โ€œHaving the opportunity to represent one of the concerns and passions of our generation at such a significant platform was an impactful experience for us.โ€๐Ÿšช๐ŸŒโœจ

For Jack, the experience challenged some of his preconceptions about politicians: โ€œNick was very friendly, engaging, and flexibleโ€ and the deep discussions reminded him โ€œto keep an open mind and think critically to seek the truth.โ€ He summed up Parliament as โ€œa harsh place, very chaotic but also full of humanity.โ€๐Ÿ˜™๐Ÿซจ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Lots of lessons learnt last Weds โ€” and plenty of encouragement for these passionate young environmental stewards to bring about change!๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŒฑ

Thank you for generously giving your time and genuinely listening to our Kew and the MLC students, and wonderful to see you and have your support, Jess . ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’š

Growing Food & Good Values๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿ’š

Today a few kind students harvested silverbeet, rainbow chard and kale from a garden bed planted during our Winter Gardening Bee, and just look at how beautifully it has grown since June!๐ŸŒง๏ธโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿชฑ๐ŸŒฑ

What made this lunchtime activity even more meaningful was that Marlow, Samir and Toby didnโ€™t harvest the produce for themselves โ€” they gave it to KHS staff!๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

Itโ€™s another example of our students putting the values of Earth Care, People Care and Fair Share into action, and modelling what it means to be part of a caring, regenerative community.๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

We love seeing our gardens grow, but not as much as our students values on show.๐Ÿซฑ๐Ÿฝโ€๐Ÿซฒ๐Ÿผ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ˜Š

FOOTY, FOOD & FUN๐Ÿ‰ ๐ŸŽ‰โšฝ๏ธ

Yesterday our Year 7s relished a fun-filled Footy Day and celebratory BBQ- cementing another lovely memory of their first year of high school.๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ—โšพ๏ธ

Students were encouraged to come dressed in their favourite sporting teamโ€™s colours and participate in games coordinated by VET Sport & Rec students.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘•โšฝ

There was plenty of friendly competition, prizes won, a sausage sizzle managed by VCE VM students and sweet treats to enjoy!๐ŸŒญ๐Ÿญ๐ŸชŽ

Shoutout to Ms Carter and her awesome VCE VM class, along with Mr Nortonโ€™s VET Sport & Recreation students, for facilitating the games and keeping everyone well-fed!๐Ÿ˜‹๐ŸŽฏ

A Symphony of Stories๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“–

Our Year 12 VCE VM student Tobie Hutchesson brought this yearโ€™s Book Week theme, Symphony of Stories, to life with an engaging display in our Library!โœจ๐Ÿ“—

Tobie initiated this Community Project because of his love of reading and books, with the goal of encouraging others to share what they love about books and inspiring more people to pick one up! How important is this given the screen-dominant times that we live in.๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ“™๐Ÿ’ก

With a helping hand from some of his classmates, Tobie put everything together and created a colourful celebration of the joy, imagination and connection that books can bring.๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“š

A wonderful example of a VCE VM project driven by passion, creativity and a love of ongoing learning - bravo Tobie!๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“–

Performing Madness, Mayhem & a Little Opera!๐ŸŽค๐Ÿฅธ๐Ÿ‘‘

Year 11 Theatre Studies proudly presents Louis Nowraโ€™s classic Australian play, Cosi! ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿคฅโ›‘

After two terms of planning, rehearsing and bringing these characters to life, our talented students are ready to welcome a live audience!๐Ÿ˜„๐ŸŽฌ๐Ÿ’

Set against the backdrop of 1970s Australia, university student Lewis takes on the job of directing a play with a group of inmates at a Melbourne mental hospital, expecting it to be an easy gig.๐Ÿซฃ That is, until the inmates decide they want to perform an operaโ€ฆ in Italian! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น๐ŸŽถ

The problem? They canโ€™t sing, act or pronounce Italian without a broad Australian accent โ€” and things are about to get chaotic!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜œ

Cosi is funny, thought-provoking and surprisingly moving, challenging our ideas about madness, love and friendship โ€” and asking whether the people outside the hospital might be the truly โ€œderangedโ€ ones.๐Ÿค”โค๏ธ

Come along to laugh, be challenged and perhaps even shed a tear โ€” this show has it all!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ญ

Recommended for ages 14+ due to swearing and adult themes, including sexual references.โš ๏ธ

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธNeed an escape and a laugh? Grab a ticket (or ten!) via the link in our bio or scan the QR code on the poster.โœจ
