Our Volleyball Community8β£βΎοΈ
A word from the lovely, supportive, and multi-talented alumna Claire Williams:
Over the weekend, something really special happened within the volleyball community as current students, alumni, coaches, and one of our biggest inspirations, Ms Louise βBatesyβ Bates, all came together.ππ
For so many of us, Batesy is the reason we thrived and really connected with volleyball. Her passion, leadership, and contribution to the sport have had a lasting impact across hundreds of players. On Saturday, a few of us were lucky enough to play against her team alongside other KHS alumni, and with Luka coaching it made the experience even more meaningful.π₯°π
Although Batesy was unfortunately injured, Dandenong still came away with the win. Even though a few people from the volleyball community couldnβt make it on the day, it was still special to reconnect and share the experience together.π€π
After the game, we took a moment to reflect on everything Batesy has done for our school volleyball program and community - the opportunities she's created for so many students and alumni over the years. Taking a photo beneath her banner felt incredibly special for us alumni and students β a full-circle moment that highlighted the strength and cohesion of the Kew High School volleyball community.πΈπ«
It was a reminder of how sport can truly bring people together across year levels and generations, and how one personβs influence can be so very impactful.ππ
Thanks for sharing this heartfelt reflection, Claire!π«Ά
Pictured here with Batesy are: Mia Rocca, Nyla Alcide, Sophie Smith, Ashton Ollington-Scammel, Nathan Clough, Claire Williams, Sophie Foster, Casey Clough, Luka Armstrong-Wallis and Liam Hogan, all of whom are playing and coaching at a high level within Victorian volleyball. ππ

Rohan Represented at National Schools ConventionποΈ
Congratulations to Yr.12 Leader, Rohan Hobbs who was selected to attend the 31st National Schools Convention in Canberra last term. π¦πΊ
A total of 113 students from across the country attended the convention, where they analysed a section of the Constitution, debated key issues, formed arguments, and voted in the same structure as a referendum. This yearβs focus was Section 53 relating to the powers of the Senate.π³οΈ
The convention provided an outstanding opportunity for students to hear a diverse range of perspectives on topics that will shape their future.π¬
Rohan said, βI had a great time in Canberra, a highlight was definitely meeting students representing every state and territory. The program was jam packed β in the three days we went to Parliament House to watch question time and meet politicians, listened to countless constitutional experts on the issue we worked on, were received by the Governor-General, sat in at the National Press Club, and toured Old Parliament House. If youβre interested in legal studies or politics, Iβd 100% recommend applying.β πβ¨
Interested students are encouraged to speak to Ms Gabrielle Sheridan for more information.ππ

Our New Farmwallπ±ππ₯₯π
Following our highly successful Sustainability Summit on Friday, weβre continuing to spotlight the importance of designing, creating, and implementing regenerative systems at school, at home, and within our local community β and weβre excited to introduce our new Farmwall!π±π
This aquaponic system - located in our STEM Centre near the Food Tech rooms and canteen - is already growing highly nutritious microgreens, which staff and students can harvest to add to their lunches and food tech classes - first food tech harvest happening tomorrow!ππ
Today, we also welcomed four fish into the system. They play an important role in naturally fertilising the water and keeping the tank healthy.ππ©΅
Weβre looking forward to sharing our Farmwall with the school community β an interactive way learn, teach, connect, grow and enjoy sustainable practices and healthy food together.π
Thank you to Cooper for composting the microgreens that were harvested and eaten by many primary students who were part of our Summit on Friday.ππΌππ½
