Almost half of this winter’s flu cases in Victoria are occurring in children and adolescents aged under 15 years, and numbers are increasing.
In most children, flu causes mild to moderate illness with symptoms such as fever and cough. Some children can develop severe illness, particularly babies and children with underlying medical conditions.
Vaccination is key to protecting children from severe flu and is recommended yearly for everyone aged 6 months and over.

As of 1 September 2023, the new Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022 comes into effect. This means there will be important changes for Victorians receiving mental health and wellbeing care – as well as their families, carers, supporters, and the workforce.
This is a significant milestone in our work to transform Victoria’s mental health and wellbeing system into one that is accessible, equitable and safe.
The new Act places lived experience at the forefront, promotes human rights principles and will drive the highest standard of care for all Victorians.
