Are you Deaf? Interested in learning English?
The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) is a free English service for migrants and refugees who need to learn English. We have some classes specifically for Deaf and hard of hearing people.
Depending on your visa you may be able eligible to study with other Deaf people to improve your English skills, your Auslan skills and to learn about life in Australia.
· Classes are taught by an AMEP teacher and a Deaf teacher.
· All class communication is in Auslan.
· Students will be able to improve their English and Auslan skills.
· Classes are offered at the Melbourne City campus.

AMEP Box Hill Institute, City campus offers Pathways to Employment for Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
This special Auslan-supported 20-week course is for AMEP-eligible Deaf students* to develop communication skills for employment in Australia.
*Students will be individually assessed to determine their English level skills and suitability for the course.
Venue: City campus – Level 3, 253 Flinders Ln, Melbourne.
When: Thursday and Friday, start 24th April to 19th September 2025
Weeks 1-13: 2 days/week at City campus + commercial kitchen at Box Hill Elgar campus
Weeks 14-19: 1 day/week of workplace communication training + 1 day/week of supported work placement
Week 20: final assessments + feedback
Time: 9:30am – 3.00pm
Level: Certificate I in EAL (Access)
Units: Use recipes to prepare food and Use hygienic practices for food safety
Teachers: An AMEP teacher and a Deaf teacher
Language of instruction: Auslan
Outcomes: Improved English and Auslan skills, Food Handling Certificate and Australian work experience.
Initial assessment will be from 26th March – 15th April (English and Auslan)
