We are 2 of the 5.5 million Australian students seeking to make the most of the opportunities that come with education.

We are also co-founders of an EdTech company so you may think we were the naturally gifted, straight-A students that cruised through school. Whilst both of us would have liked this to be true, it was not the case. We cringe when looking back at our high school journey, knowing that we relied on study techniques that were over 60% less effective than other forms of revision, or that we studied in 2-hour blocks when it is 45% less effective than revising in 25-minute chunks.

While this may have led to lower ATARs (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank), we believe these experiences are the key ingredients of our business growth and success to date… we know exactly what students experience during their school years. From late-night study sessions to last-minute cramming before a test, we have been there and (unfortunately), done that. But like many students across Australia, we also noticed larger issues that frustrated us, such as inefficient and outdated study practices and methods of teaching. On top of this, we also found it difficult to access high-quality supplementary academic resources and support.

On a lonely night during lockdown whilst on a phone call chatting about uni work, we decided it was time for us, as students, to do something about it and try to illuminate education. From what started with a clever group of mates providing tutoring support, we have expanded our team to hundreds of tutors and content creators from the top 1% of their cohorts. The popularity of our platform has caught us by surprise and we are grateful to all our students and parents who have jumped on board so far.

We are passionate about making it easy for all students to access high-quality learning solutions, as well as improving study experiences through more engaging and efficient practices. Most importantly, we believe that academic success shouldn’t be hampered by socioeconomic circumstances.

Our experiences and hindsight as students, tutors and facilitators of thousands of learning hours will continue to drive EdLuma and get us closer to fulfilling our vision; a world where all students are equipped with the tools, resources and support they need to succeed, no matter their capacities and circumstances.
