Today is May 17: The International Day Against LGBTQIA+ Discrimination!

Today, millions of people around the world will be going rainbow to build LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and stand out against discrimination.

Why? Because even though we’ve come so far, the reality is there’s still a LOT of work to be done.

IDAHOBIT marks the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the Classification of Diseases – only 33 years ago.

And today, in 2023:

🌈 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ youth in Australia still experience abuse due to their identity.

🌈 68% of LGBTQIA+ employees in Australia are not out to everyone at work.

🌈 35% of LGBTQIA+ Australians have experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months.

So, today really is a chance for us to actively, visibly, and proudly create LGBTQIA+ inclusion at work, school, in our communities, and as individuals. Fill the day with pride and allyship!

Whether you’re part of the LGBTQIA+ community, an ally, or an ally-to-be, by going rainbow you’re taking a stand against discrimination – and it’s truly more important than ever to do just that.

How will you be going rainbow? How will you be levelling up your LGBTQIA+ knowledge and allyship? Big or small, it all makes a difference.

If you're not sure what to do today, spread the word and the message of LGBTQIA+ inclusion! Share resources, put on a rainbow ribbon, have a conversation with your friends or your colleagues – head to idahobit.org.au to get involved!

Tag us in your photos and posts, so we can see how you go rainbow, whether it’s a morning tea or via a rainbow ribbon on your lapel!

And if you're in position to do so, make a tax-deductible donation to create LGBTQIA+ inclusion 365 days a year and keep that impact going.

But most of all – Happy IDAHOBIT! 🏳️‍🌈

Today is the 'big day' for our Year 12s here in Victoria. I want to send out my thoughts and support to all the year 12s and their parents/carers who received their ATARs this morning.
I know not everyone got what they expected. This happens every year and unfortunately neurodivergent students are overrepresented in this group. I remember getting my VCE results and feeling physically ill and then scrambling to change all of my university preferences as I hadn't even thought of a plan B.
Today's emotions and reactions can be tricky to manage as we don't want to dismiss a child's disappointment and what will feel like grief, but at the same time we want to let them know that it will be OK and it will work out.
Look after yourselves today and this week. Make the most of your school's resources and any support that they have on offer if you need it. But most of all celebrate the great things they achieved over the last year that aren't measured by their ATAR score.

Happy Saturday.
I hear this theme bubbling in the background with many parents I speak to. It’s not malicious and always comes from a deep love for their child, no doubt about that, but it does gradually erode their self esteem and sense of self.

This is really important to remember.

Processing speed is different from processing ability.

Sometimes, when a person realizes I have poor processing speed, they automatically assume I have poor processing ability. Their tone becomes more singsongy, their vocabulary more childlike, and their expressions more performative – thinking this makes it easier for me to understand.

It's like they've never considered the possibility that a person can be both smart and slow.

I can't handle a barrage of facts, descending haphazardly into my mind like Tetris. I freeze up, game over.

However, I can handle extremely complex information if you give it to me one bite at a time... with pauses in between to digest each new fact.

Everyone deserves respect, regardless of processing speed or ability. But remember that those are separate needs with separate accommodations, and they don't always overlap.

I can relate to this one and I am sure I am not alone. I just this moment took a mouthful of cold tea 🤣

This has been me all morning.

I often use piles to keep myself organised. My husband is the complete opposite and he has been on the receiving end of this look before.

Do Not Move My Stuff!

Thrively ADHD Coaching is now offering remote coaching only.

Due to the ongoing Covid restrictions in Melbourne, face to face appointments will no longer be available.

While I understand that remote appointments are not suitable for everyone, moving from onsite to online with every lockdown is not sustainable and incredibly disruptive to both my clients and my business.

While most remote sessions are on Zoom, we can be creative. There are other technology platforms or telephone coaching available.

Most importantly, we are still here to help you. Please reach out for more information.
