Here is what I am taking to tomorrow’s 1 hour session.
• My book for observations throughout the session.
• My laptop for activities and notes.
• A whiteboard to write a schedule on.
• An iPad for this little one to play a game on at the end of the session.
• Dog Crimes to practice following complex instructions.
• Pencil case, an obvious staple for every session.
What I forgot to add was my client specific folder with resources for each activity that we do.

Resource of the week - The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛🍎🍊🍰

Who doesn’t love this book?!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great resource for:
• Teaching days of the week.
• Counting to five.
• Colour recognition.
• Concepts such as before and after e.g. What did he eat before the apples? What did he eat after the oranges?
• Concepts such as first and last e.g. What was the first thing he ate? What was the last thing he ate?
• Day and night.
• Food categories such as fruits and sweets. Healthy and not so healthy.
• A range of WH questions.
• Life cycle.

One year 🤩🎉

I can’t believe it has been 1 year since I started my little business.
1 year since I transitioned my page from babysitting to allied health… What an incredible first year it has been!

In one year I have:
• Provided ongoing support to 10 clients - it doesn’t sound like much but when you work 9-5 on top of multiple clients a week, it adds up.
• Supported clients with their speech and physiotherapy plans. I am about to start supporting a client within OT.
• Left my 9-5 job to work somewhere with shorter hours so that I can continue to grow my business and say yes to awesome opportunities that I have declined in the past.
• Helped parents find professionals to support their children by creating lists of local professionals.
• Continued to grow my page, which I am so proud of. I love sharing my knowledge and journey with the community that I have created.
• Reached my goal of 500 followers within the first 4 months of the year.
• Ran my first giveaway which was a great success.
• Reached 27,000 views within a month.

I appreciate every follower; both new and those who have been around since my babysitting days. Thank you for the likes, comments, shares and for following along.

I am so excited to see what the next year brings 🥰

Kids really do say the funniest things sometimes 😂

Here are a few comments I have heard over the years that still make me giggle 🙊
My personal favourite is when they are so shocked that I have a mum and a dad.

Resource of the week - Pop the Pig 🎲🐷

A game that I didn’t realise was so widely loved and used - Now one of my favourites to use in sessions!

Not only is it fun, but it has many uses:

• Colour recognition: Name the colour of each burger. With only four colours it keeps things simple.

• Number recognition: Each burger has a number on the bottom. Practice identifying numbers 1-4 as you take turns.

• Turn taking: Roll the dice and take turns practising ‘my turn’ and ‘your turn’.

• Articulation: A quick way to get trials; Each number on the bottom of the burger represents how many times you need to say the target sound/word/phrase/sentence.

• Sentence structure: Create sentences such as ‘The pig is eating’ or ‘The pig is eating a (colour) burger.

• Describing: Describe the colour of the burgers or the size of pigs stomach.

• Vocabulary: Model and use words such as push, pop, eat, more, in, empty, full.

• Verbs: Great for targeting action words such as roll, pick, feed, push, eat, pop.

• Answering questions: Ask questions like; what colour did you get? How many times do we push? Where do we put the burger?

Does anyone else love this game?

Sessions are done, but my work isn’t quite done yet.

Wondering what happens behind the scenes after sessions?

My post session to do list normally includes:
• Notes.
• Invoicing.
• Preparing for upcoming sessions if needed.
• Record keeping.

With it being school holidays, I also have some extra time to:
• Do some laminating.
• Update my provider lists.
• Prepare resources for term 3.

There is always plenty happening behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly!
