Maths! Teaching ideas and resources for educators to challenge students through fun

12/08/2020

Looking for a fun way to learn maths with games that include social distancing?

❄️☃️ Try Math Snowball Fights! ☃️❄️

This game can cover any topic and any equation. Have students create their own questions or provide them for your class (you can also create them for your child during remote learning!) -one question per piece of paper and scrunch it up into a ball. Set a timer for 30-60seconds and throw them around the room at classmates or family (not too hard, safety first! And have a snowball fight)
When the timer runs out, you have to solve the nearest snowball to you.

You can either have students complete their answers in a workbook to promote more turns, more fights and more fun OR you may like to have students complete their working out on the snowball and the next round, students can confirm or find the error in the previous answer.

The video that goes with the activity! Teach students area and perimeter with maths art! This is also a great evidence of learning task for teachers and a fantastic activity for students to explore measurement.

An activity to explore in using squares as informal units. Showing that although the area is always 10 squares, the perimeter can be different.

Introducing tessellations using translation targeting transformation. A great activity for students to see the movement of the shape and create a pattern. The next step is for students to look for similar patterns in the real world. Have a go at home! ➕➖✖️➗
