Throughout National Boarding Week, we celebrate the strength of our community on the Hill and the positive impact boarding has on so many of our students. The 2026 theme, "Echoes of Home," celebrates the traditions and supportive relationships that foster student belonging and resilience. Our Captain of the Hill, Hugh (Year 12), captured this sentiment perfectly in a speech at Monday’s assembly:
“With National Boarding Week taking place, us boys on the Hill are reminded of many things. These include how lucky we are to be in this brilliant environment, the sacrifices made by our parents and the knowledge that boarding exists across Australia and is a far larger community than within the Scotch gates. While boarding gives the boys on the Hill a chance to put our hand up and take part in a great adventure in things like rowing, Cadets, Pipes and Drums or even a mathematics olympiad, boarding gives us the little things as well. A safe place to sleep, a strong routine, and surrounding each and every one of us with the expectation that we can hold ourselves to just that little bit higher a standard. As the National Boarding week holds fun activities, we can remember to respect our space, learn responsibility for ourselves and reverence for the deep tradition of Scotch boarding.”
Throughout the week, our boarders have taken part in a range of events, including an afternoon at MLC baking cakes for Ronald McDonald House, BBQ suppers in the Errington Retreat, and house games led by our Hill and House Captains. The boys also took time to write letters of gratitude, thanking boarding staff for their care, support and commitment each day.
The week concludes today with a friendly soccer match, as our Year 12 boarders take on the prefects!

Over the past fortnight, our Future Pathways team has led the Careers Convention, supporting boys in Years 10 to 12 as they begin to explore the many possibilities ahead.
Through industry panels featuring Old Boys and members of the wider Scotch family, boys heard honest reflections on career journeys, tertiary study and the skills and pathways that shape future choices. These conversations helped make future planning feel more relatable and achievable.
Year 12 boys also took part in our Beyond the Gates event, where young Old Boys shared insights from their recent transition to tertiary study and offered practical advice for navigating life after Scotch.
This week’s Courses Expo brought together 42 tertiary institutions and pathway providers, giving boys the opportunity to ask questions, compare courses and discover opportunities they may not have previously considered.
We thank our Old Boys, presenters, providers and staff for their generosity and support, and our families for continuing these important conversations at home as boys begin to shape their future pathways.

For generations, Cadets has been a cornerstone of life at Scotch, contributing quietly but powerfully to the development of leadership, service and character. Today, the Scotch Cadet Unit is one of the oldest in the country, with participation having doubled in recent years to a unit strength of more than 300, reflecting both its enduring relevance and growing national focus on the value of cadet programs in schools.
At the end of last term, Scotch Cadets participated in their annual Bivouac, a three-day field camp designed to develop leadership, teamwork and resilience in a practical setting.
The camp introduced new recruits to living in the field, sleeping in hutchies, cooking with ration packs and learning essential camp craft, while Corporals and Sergeants were given responsibility for leading their sections and platoons through various skill-based lessons such as navigation, and fieldcraft and participate team-based challenges.
Bivouac is often the first time senior cadets exercise their leadership skills in the field. It encourages boys to take initiative, support one another and grow in confidence. These skills form the foundation for future opportunities within the Cadets program and beyond.

What a day, what a game! Congratulations to our First XVIII on holding the Cordner‑Eggleston Cup for another year. 🏆
Played in the spirit of our 175th year, the occasion felt all the more special. It was a proud reminder of the tradition, community and shared history that continue to shape both schools. With the sun shining and the sidelines alive with support, the boys rose to the moment.
A special congratulations to First XVIII coach Steve Morris on his first Cordner‑Eggleston Cup win at Scotch. His leadership and preparation have already made a strong impression, and this result is a credit to the hard work and commitment of the entire team.
Well done boys! 🎉

We are proud to celebrate the exceptional achievements of our Year 12 cohort. Three boys - Tommy Chu, Witter Onggara, and Matthew Kriesner (pictured) - achieved the maximum ATAR of 99.95 and are therefore the duces of Scotch College for 2025.
In addition to these remarkable accomplishments, ten boys attained an ATAR of 99.90 or above, placing them in the top 0.1% of the state. A total of 36 boys achieved an ATAR of 99 or higher, and 80 boys achieved 95 or higher. We also celebrate 14 perfect study scores across eleven VCE subjects, alongside outstanding results in University Extension Mathematics, including the equal highest raw mark in the state.
These results reflect not only academic excellence but also the resilience, balance, and breadth of achievement that define Scotch boys. Congratulations to the Class of 2025, and thank you to the staff and families who supported them throughout their journey.
