Classroom 5 Takes Flight! ✈️

Classroom 5’s imagination took flight as the children worked collaboratively to create their very own aeroplane, Nido Airways, using recycled cardboard and creative thinking.

Through this hands-on experience, children explored design, construction and problem-solving as they transformed recycled materials into something truly imaginative. The aeroplane became a space for rich role play, where children could take on different roles, create stories and embark on exciting journeys together.

This experience celebrated the power of children’s ideas, collaboration and the endless possibilities that emerge when creativity takes flight.

Classroom 5’s Journey Around the World! ✈️🌏

Classroom 5’s inquiry project has taken children on an exciting journey around the world, exploring the many experiences and roles found within an airport. From baggage check-in and airport cafés to flight attendants and pilots, children have immersed themselves in rich imaginative play and collaborative learning.

The classroom is rich in opportunities for communication, creativity, problem-solving and connection, as children take on different roles, share ideas and build their understanding of the world around them. Through this evolving project, children are expanding their curiosity, confidence and sense of belonging as they bring their ideas and experiences to life.

Sweet Exploration! The World of Ice Cream! 🍦✨

Classroom 3’s enquiry project has continued to grow as children explore the wonderful world of ice cream through creativity, collaboration and imaginative play. The children transformed their space into their very own ice cream shop, developing ideas around roles, customer interactions and the shared experiences that come with running a shop.

Together, the children collaboratively created their very own mango sorbet, exploring ingredients, processes and the joy of making something together. This experience continued into the outdoor environment, where children extended their imaginative play by selecting colourful “scoops” and creating their own frozen treats!

Little Moments of Care, Connection and Imagination 🛁✨

Our outdoor environment became a space for nurturing and connection as children explored the many moments that happen before, during and after bath time.

Through role and imaginative play, siblings truly shone as they worked together to care for their “bubs” preparing for bath time, gently washing hair, supporting their little ones and helping them get dressed afterwards. These moments reflected the children’s growing understanding of care, relationships and the routines they experience in their own lives.

Classroom 4 have continued their exploration of our Artist in Residence, Jean-Michel Basquiat, with a focus on line and direction as powerful elements of visual expression.

Drawing on the children's ongoing fascination with dinosaurs, they explored Basquiat's iconic dinosaur imagery, observing the expressive lines, bold marks and energetic movement throughout his work. Inspired by Basquiat's Pez Dispenser (1984), the children worked collaboratively to create their own large-scale dinosaur artwork, experimenting with line, direction and layered mark-making to communicate movement, ideas and imagination.

This collaborative experience encouraged creativity, teamwork and artistic confidence while celebrating each child's unique contribution to a shared masterpiece.

PJ WEEK!!

We have raised $982 of our $250 goal! Our children, our educators and even some of our parents have been dressed in their PJ's this week. We love to see it!!

A huge thank you to everyone who has participated thus far, and a huge thank you to those whom have donated. Not only does this make a huge impact for foster children, but it also shows the children here at Nido, that they can affect change at any age.

Bold Lines, Big Imaginations!
Exploring the World of Jean-Michel Basquiat! 🎨

As part of our Artist in Residence program, our children explored the expressive work of Jean-Michel Basquiat across all five classrooms. Through his artwork, they investigated the visual elements of line, direction and motif, experimenting with a range of painting techniques, mark-making and oil pastels to develop their own artistic ideas.

Inspired by Basquiat’s iconic crown motif, each child created their own Basquiat-inspired crown using recycled cardboard. Through this creative process, children were encouraged to see themselves as artists, embracing their unique ideas, experimenting with new possibilities and confidently sharing their own artistic voices.

🌿✨ Looking Back on Reconciliation Week Exploring First Nations Creativity ✨🌿

During Reconciliation Week, Classrooms 4 and 5 explored the work of First Nations artist Paul McCann through the National Gallery of Victoria’s collection, discovering his artwork Gumnut Bling a stunning ball gown inspired by connections to Country, culture and creativity.

Inspired by Paul’s artistic journey and the textures, patterns and details within Gumnut Bling, the children created their own wearable art pieces using natural resources, collage materials and even Play-Doh. Through this exploration, children experimented with design, storytelling and creative expression while celebrating First Nations perspectives.
