UNITED IN ACTION 🇬🇷👐
ΕΝΩΜΕ’ΝΟΙ ΣΕ ΔΡΑ’ΣΗ 🏛️🏺
Our language is an inextricable aspect of our identity as Greek-Australians.
The philosophy by which our organisation was founded, was to support the maintenance and education of the Greek language and culture.
The cessation of the only Greek studies program in Victoria, at LaTrobe University, would have direct consequences for both maintenance and facilitation of Greek Language learning. Dismantling one of the last remaining local means for the continuation of study in Greek, robs students of a unique and enriching opportunity to enhance their university, professional, and personal profile.
The battle to maintain and evolve Greek identity in Australia is made significantly more challenging without a local tertiary institution supporting Modern Greek language learning. It is also a matter of maintaining representation of Modern Greek at a tertiary level, an achievement of which we should be proud.
It is not enough for solely community leaders to make it a priority to help students continue their education in the Greek language. As the future leaders of the diaspora, it is our role to maintain the pillars that uphold heritage in the local and global community. To be familiar with our roots, strengthen our ethnic and cultural identity, and develop an ever more positive and valuable sense of self.
It is imperative that we as a community preserve the cultural infrastructure provided by the Modern Greek Program at La Trobe University, not only for ourselves but for generations to come.
The program is one of the last remaining in the country which offers both cultural and language courses for students. This comes as the Latrobe program has recently seen renewed success and interest from outgoing VCE students, to continue their studies.

25η ΜΆΡΤΙΟ 🕊
25th OF MARCH 🇬🇷
Υγεία, πρόοδο και Ειρήνη σε ολο το έθνος μας!
🔵 The 25th of March is a double celebration. It was the day that the angel Gabriel delivered the good news to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to the child of God. This is the celebration of Ευαγγελισμός τις Θεοτόκου.
🔵 Οn this day, after 400 years of slavery, the flag of the Greek resistance, was blessed and raised with the cry of !
The Greek Flag.
What does the greek flag mean?
According to popular tradition,
The nine stripes represent the nine syllables of the phrase Ελευθερία ή Θάνατος (Freedom or Death),
The five blue stripes for the syllables Ελευθερία and the four white stripes ή Θάνατος.
The nine stripes are also said to represent the letters of the word freedom, (Greek:ελευθερία).
