# | The Theology of the Fathers

Who were the Church Fathers, and how did their writings shape the theological language, spiritual vision, and doctrinal life of Christianity?

In Semester Two, Abraam Mikhail will guide students through the writings and theological contributions of the Fathers from the first to the sixth century. The course will explore a range of patristic genres and introduce the distinctive yet interconnected traditions of Alexandrian, Cappadocian, and Latin Christianity.

St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College was delighted to be represented at the inaugural St Sarapion Society of Liturgy Conference, Rite and Revelation: Essays in Liturgical History and Theology, held in Melbourne on 13 June 2026. The College was represented Dr Andrew Mellas, who joined scholars, clergy, and students from across Australia to explore the historical, theological and spiritual dimensions of Christian worship. The conference is part of an exciting new initiative dedicated to advancing liturgical scholarship and dialogue across Christian traditions. Also present at the conference was His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne and His Grace Bishop Chrysostomos of Bukoba and West Tanzania.
The evening before, at the invitation of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos, Dr Mellas delivered a public lecture for the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Melbourne: Holy Tears and Heavenly Joy: The Liturgy of the Heart. Drawing on the hymns of St Romanos the Melodist and the wider Byzantine tradition, Dr Mellas explored how liturgy forms and transforms the human heart through a journey from sorrow to Paschal joy.
The College thanks His Grace and the conference organisers for their hospitality and for fostering deeper engagement with the liturgical heritage of the Church.

| SAC Meets His Holiness Pope Tawadros II

On Sunday, 24 May 2026, Coptic theological colleges outside Egypt were invited for the first time by His Holiness Pope Tawadros II to participate in a workshop held at St Mark’s Academy, located within the Logos Center in Wadi el-Natrun.

St Athanasius College was represented by H.G. Bishop Rewis, Fr Shenouda Boutros, Fr James Nessim, and Dr Lisa Agaiby. During the workshop, His Holiness introduced St Mark’s Academy to the delegates and invited open discussion on collaboration, the support of research activity, theological curriculum, and future initiatives of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the field of theological education.

We are deeply grateful and blessed by the leadership and shepherding of His Holiness, and by his commitment to fostering such collaborative efforts for the service of Christ’s ministry and the care of His flock.
