The 4-year-old kinder program extended their term 2 theme: Exploring the Interconnectedness and Interdependence of all Living Things with a visit to the Melbourne Museum today.
They loved looking at the BugsAlive exhibit and seeing the gigantic dinosaur skeletons as apart of the Friday ‘beyond the gate program’ giving the children opportunity to extend their learning beyond the ECC environment.

The team are incredibly pleased to announce that Elwood Children's Centre has been rated as Exceeding National Quality Standard!
ECC has previously been rated as Exceeding National Quality Standard in 2013 and 2018; and we are thrilled to have once again been recognised as providing high quality education and care to the community. This of course could not have been achieved without the hard work of our dedicated staff, families and Committee of Management.

ART & BAKE SALE
Hi ECC community,
The ECC team and fundraising committee feel that everyone could do with a bit of Christmas sparkle to end the year and raise some funds for the centre.
Therefore we want to fill everyone's tummy with a yummy bake sale and have a silent auction of the children's art -great gifts for family members for Christmas :)
The art and bake sale will be open during drop-off 8:15 am-9:30 am from the 7th of Decmeber to the 9th of December.
Winning buyers will be able to collect and purchase their purchased items from Friday morning.
Following on with our Term 4 educator-initiated learning theme: Power dynamics, building a community-centered classroom.
What does this look like in the program?
A child in our Walert program approached educators and said he had a great idea, he asked if he could use the iPad to make a movie. Soon enough he had many other helpers, some were directing, others building the set, and some were figuring out the videography and best angles. There was lots of discussion about what would happen in the movies and who would say and do what. It was a great exercise in teamwork and we loved watching the end result together this afternoon.

Boo 👻 Term 4 educator initiated learning theme: power dynamics, building A community- centred classroom. What does this look like in the program? Children bringing their own lunch boxes, children deciding where to go for ‘Beyond the gate’ program, involving children in setting own goals and of course letting the children pick what celebrations we celebrate together at ECC. Happy halloween 🎃 👻🧙♀️

Beyond the gate program looked a little different on this grey and wet Melbourne morning.
Educators made the choice to continue with the program and allow the children the opportunity to stay at the centre or go for a walk on Country. Before going out to explore there was a group discussion about who would like to go and what clothing was appropriate for this weather.
During our walk on Country there was a small discussion with the 4 children that chose to go, about what was different about this walk on Country compared to a sunny day.
To end the morning we warmed up our bodies with a baby chino at Alex & Co Cafe before heading back to the centre with take away baby chino for our friends back at Elwood Children Centre.
