Curiosity, imagination and hands-on learning came together as our children enjoyed an exciting Dinosaur Discovery Volcano Experience!

The children explored what happens when a volcano erupts, watched the reaction with excitement and made their own discoveries along the way. From making predictions to observing changes and asking questions, every moment sparked curiosity and encouraged little scientists to explore the world around them.

Experiences like these help children develop their thinking, problem-solving and observation skills while learning through play, exploration and discovery.

It was wonderful to see our children so engaged, curious and excited as they experienced the magic of science in such a fun and meaningful way!

This week at Learning Ladder Epping/Preston, we were very excited to welcome some special visitors from the local police force for an engaging and educational incursion. The children had the opportunity to meet the police officers, learn more about their important role in our community and discover how police officers help to keep people safe. The children were also very excited to explore the police car and see some of the equipment used by police officers.
The children enjoyed asking questions, learning about police uniforms and equipment, and discovering what it is like to be a police officer. Experiences like these help children build confidence, develop an understanding of community helpers and strengthen their connection with the wider community.

At Learning Ladder we recently celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, a special day that recognises and celebrates the culture, history, identity and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children. Our children took part in meaningful experiences that encouraged them to learn, explore and develop an appreciation for the rich and diverse cultures of Australia’s First Peoples.

Through stories, creative experiences, music and conversations, the children were given opportunities to build their understanding of connection, community and culture. It was a wonderful day of learning, sharing and celebrating together, helping our children develop respect and appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

The children had the opportunity to dress up as doctors and explore a range of doctors’ equipment toys, using their imagination as they pretended to care for their patients.

This week at Learning Ladder, our children brought the story We're Going on a Bear Hunt to life through a wonderful sensory adventure. Guided by an educator, the children explored a series of sensory tubs inspired by the different scenes in the book, encouraging them to use their senses as they stepped through each part of the journey.

As they squished, splashed, and discovered a variety of textures, the children strengthened their language, imagination, and sensory processing skills while building confidence through hands on exploration. It was a fun and engaging way to extend a much loved story and create meaningful learning experiences through play.

This week at Learning Ladder, we welcomed a special visit from Educreatures, bringing exciting opportunities for our children to engage, explore and learn through hands-on experiences. The children were able to interact with a variety of fascinating reptiles, including a snake and a blue tongue lizard, creating opportunities to learn more about these unique animals, their habitats and the importance of caring for living creatures.

Our children showed curiosity, confidence and enthusiasm as they gently observed and interacted with the reptiles, asking questions and sharing their ideas throughout the experience. Visits like these provide meaningful learning opportunities that encourage exploration, build connections with the natural world and support our commitment to creating engaging experiences where children can discover, experiment and develop a lifelong love of learning.

This week at Learning Ladder Epping, we welcomed Teeth on Wheels for a special visit focused on promoting healthy smiles and positive dental experiences for our children. The children enjoyed learning about the importance of looking after their teeth, practising good oral hygiene habits, and becoming more familiar with visiting the dentist in a fun and supportive environment.

Our little learners took part in engaging activities and gained valuable knowledge about keeping their teeth strong and healthy. We loved seeing their curiosity, confidence, and excitement throughout the visit, and we thank Teeth on Wheels for helping make dental education such an enjoyable experience for our Learning Ladder community.

This week at Learning Ladder, our little learners have been busy exploring an exciting ant farm letter matching activity! The children had the opportunity to match letters while engaging with a fun and hands-on ant-themed experience. This activity encouraged curiosity, supported early literacy skills, and helped children become more familiar with letter recognition in an enjoyable and meaningful way.

Through play-based learning, the children strengthened their concentration, problem-solving skills, and fine motor development as they carefully matched each letter. Activities like this help build confidence, encourage independent learning, and create positive connections with literacy from an early age. We loved watching the children explore, discover, and celebrate their learning together!

This week at Learning Ladder Epping, the children took part in a hands-on recycling activity designed to help them understand the importance of caring for our environment. The activity introduced three recycling baskets: a red bin for non-recyclable items, a yellow bin for plastics, and a green bin for organic materials. Using printable images, the children carefully sorted each item into the correct basket, building their awareness of how everyday waste can be separated responsibly.

Through this engaging experience, the children developed early sustainability habits while strengthening their decision-making and categorisation skills. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm as they discussed where each item belonged and worked together to make the right choices.
