In Classroom 6, the children have been enjoying regular outings into their local community. Last week, our Kindergarten children visited the Ascot Vale Library, where they had the opportunity to connect with one another and the world around them.

On their walk, the children observed trams, buses, traffic lights, and other familiar landmarks, sparking conversations about their local environment. At the library, they explored a wide variety of books, enjoyed reading together, and learned that the library is an important part of the local community.

As part of the visit, each child borrowed their own library book to take home, encouraging a sense of ownership, responsibility, and a love of reading. Experiences like these help children develop a strong sense of belonging and connection to their community while building confidence and independence.

It was a wonderful day filled with learning, exploration, and meaningful community connections.📚⭐️

In Classroom 3, children regularly explore and engage with First Nations perspectives through creative experiences, storytelling and meaningful conversations. As part of this ongoing learning, the children created colourful Rainbow Serpents using cardboard snake cut outs and a variety of collage materials. They enjoyed cutting, gluing and decorating their snakes while exploring different colours and textures, developing their fine motor skills and expressing their creativity.

Educators shared the story of the Rainbow Serpent to deepen children's understanding of First Nations cultures, encouraging respectful discussions about the significance of Dreaming stories, connection to Country and the importance of caring for the land. The children worked cooperatively, shared resources and proudly displayed their creations, reflecting their growing appreciation and understanding of First Nations cultures and histories.❤️🖤💛

Introducing Our Community Swap Station! ⭐️

Our Community Pantry has always been a place where families can access essential food items when needed. We're excited to expand this space by introducing our new Community Swap Station!

Families are welcome to donate, swap, or take pre-loved clothing, shoes, toys, and other children's essentials that are still in good condition. Whether you're giving items a new home or finding something your family can use, everyone is welcome.

Together, our Community Pantry and Community Swap Station are here to support our Nido Ascot Vale families, encourage sustainability, reduce waste, and strengthen our caring community.

Take what you need, give what you can.💚

NAIDOC Week ❤️💛🖤

In Classroom 6, we continue to embed First Nations perspectives into our everyday learning through meaningful provocations that inspire curiosity, creativity, and respectful conversations.

As part of our ongoing experiences, the children explored the stories of the Rainbow Serpent and Bunjil the Eagle. Using loose parts, natural materials, and playdough in the colours of red, yellow, and black, they created lizards and Rainbow Serpents.

They also used visual images of Bunjil the Eagle and the Rainbow Serpent as inspiration to draw and create their own artworks, expressing their ideas through a range of creative experiences.
Throughout these experiences, the children shared their thoughts about the meaning of the Rainbow Serpent and engaged in conversations about First Nations culture, storytelling, and caring for Country.

These discussions encouraged children to develop an understanding of the importance of connection to Country, respect for the natural world, and the rich knowledge shared through First Nations stories.

Our commitment to embedding First Nations perspectives extends beyond NAIDOC Week, creating ongoing opportunities for children to learn, explore, and develop an appreciation for the histories, cultures, and traditions of Australia’s First Nations Peoples every day. ❤️💛🖤
