Our kindergarten children had a wonderful visit from Mark and Barb from A Day with Clay!!

The children learnt all about clay, its properties and how it’s made, before watching a demonstration using both hand shaped clay and the pottery wheel.

Then it was their turn! From pans to love hearts, spiders to bunny rabbits, each child brought their own ideas to life, followed by making a special pot on the pottery wheel!

A big thank you to Mark and Barb for an inspiring and memorable day! 🤍🏺

🚸 Road Safety Fun! 🚦
Last week the children took part in a fun and interactive road safety session with Tracy from Stop, Look, Listen, Think! They explored key messages around pedestrian, passenger and bike safety through games, discussions, and hands on learning.

From learning how to cross the road safely and understanding traffic lights, to talking about seat belts and helmets, the children were engaged and eager to learn about road safety.

A magical winter day at CCC ❄️🌨️
Today the children were surprised and delighted when ‘snow’ made its way to Cockatoo! They explored its texture and felt its cold temperature, worked together to make snowballs and small snowmen, and watched as it gradually melted back down.

It was an exciting opportunity for the children to observe and investigate the changes that occur with ice and temperature, while sparking their curiosity and wonder!

Yesterday we welcomed Dave from ABC Dental into our service to visit our over 2 children. During his visit, Dave conducted general dental health checks and shared helpful tips with the children about keeping their teeth clean.

This experience supported the children in becoming more familiar and comfortable with the idea of visiting the dentist, while also helping them understand the importance of good dental hygiene. 🦷🪥

Over the last few weeks we have excitedly recommenced our Bush Kinder program for the Kindergarten and Junior Kinder children. This program offers the children the opportunity to connect with nature, explore the environment, and engage in meaningful outdoor learning experiences. From climbing and building to observing wildlife, our first sessions were full of wonder and discovery.

We look forward to watching the children’s confidence, curiosity and connection to Country grow as we continue our Bush Kinder journey throughout the year.

Last week we recognised National Reconciliation Week with a range of meaningful experiences that invited the children to learn about and celebrate First Nations cultures. Through art, playdough, books, puzzles, music and discussions, we explored stories, culture, and the importance of caring for Country.

These experiences supported our ongoing commitment to reconciliation, fostering respect, curiosity, and connection. Together, we are continuing to listen, learn and walk forward on this journey. 💛🖤❤️ 💚💙🤍🖤

In the lead up to Mother's Day each room joined in the joy of celebrating Mother’s Day by creating something special for the amazing mums in our lives. From heartfelt cards to thoughtful handmade gifts, each present was made with love.

It was so heartwarming to see the children proudly working on their surprises, sharing stories about their mums, and putting so much care into every detail. 💕

🇦🇺Anzac Day at Cockatoo Community Childcare 🇳🇿
Last week, we came together as a centre to honour and commemorate Anzac Day. Across all rooms, the children engaged in meaningful learning experiences to help them understand the significance of this important day.
We read age appropriate stories, shared thoughtful discussions about bravery and remembrance, baked traditional Anzac biscuits, and created beautiful poppy artwork to pay our respects.
