Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm a Year 5 teacher.

In my career so far, I have had experience as a classroom teacher, in individual learning support and even education recruitment!

Maths Investigation: Playground Project 08/12/2021

I could not be more proud of my students as they shared and celebrated their hard work this term. Students received a project at the beginning of the term that incorporated a number of mathematical concepts as a way of revision and an opportunity to work in mixed abilities.

🧑 Teacher Planners!

Last year I made a teacher planner, this year I just didn't have the time to make one.
We are very lucky at our school as we were able to order one from and we have already received it.

I love the cover of this planner and the tabs for each month. There is an assessment section, as well as a section to add student records which will be amazing to make quick notes for reports etc

Now I can't wait to have things to write in it...tell me you're a teacher without telling me you are a teacher πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ«

πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ« ARMS V CUPS Editing

I created this handy visual for my students to proofread their narrative stories this week.
I saw many edits, particularly punctuation and removing words that were not needed.
Love this resource!

Happy Weekend!

πŸ“Œ Never underestimate a fun game!

This is a game my students really enjoyed playing in distance learning and one I wanted to transition into the classroom.

Now that we are back at school, a student is selected to create a collage at school/home, ready to share the following day.
It's a quick and easy way to get the class talking and to give the selected student an opportunity to share something fun that will challenge their peers!

FAB FIND on MS Teams πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ«

If you are like me, you might hate when sticky/post-it notes start falling off the wall or you find them on the floor and the owner hasn't noticed it is missing!

I recently did an MS Teams update and noticed the opportunity to be more creative when using the whiteboard.

I introduced our new inquiry unit with a question and asked each student to add their thoughts on a 'sticky note'.
This worked so well because each student when see where another student is working and the text can be moved to a other sticky note or edited at any time.

My students loved this! It was something new to use and I cod download it as an image so that we could refer back to it at anytime, as well as being available in the 'files' section for the team.

Tip: Pose the question to your students and send them off to breakout rooms while you quickly set up the page for their contributions.

Optimistic October 05/10/2021

Brain breaks are important, especially while in distance learning. We may spend a lot of time on our digital devices and I wanted to give my students a graphic reminder to take breaks as they need them.

πŸ“š BRAIN BREAK IDEAS

Brain breaks are important, especially while in distance learning. We may spend a lot of time on our digital devices and I wanted to give my students a graphic reminder to take breaks as they need them.

Brain breaks:
βœ” relieve stress and anxiety
βœ” allow us to refocus
βœ” encourage us to self-regulate

Being able to come back to a task after a brain break and complete it get it builds confidence and self-esteem.
It might also remind your students that they can work through their challenges and be motivated to keep trying!

πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ« Distance Learning Idea

Looking forward to Term 4 starting next week, not so much going back to distance learning!

I have a feeling that we will need to reconnect with students and allow time for students to reconnect with each other too.

With the use of Google Slides, my students will be able to share a story or photo to their personalised slide to get the conversation started.

I cannot wait to see how it goes...roll on Term 4 πŸ“š

BOOKFLIX and Chill 21/09/2021

I’m excited to get β€˜Bookflixβ€˜ up and running this term to encourage students to think more about what their recommendation tells us about a book!

βœ‰ Penpals are not a thing of the past!

As we remain in lockdown, we started to think about maintaining connections and friendships. I guess you never know how much time students are spending alone or who they have to talk to throughout the day.

I was delighted to be CC'd into emails setting up face time calls (with parental permission), movie nights and walks around the block πŸ“š

We have connected students across the cohort to keep conversations and friendships going as well as participating in a penpal program with another school in South Australia via the penpal program

What are you doing with your students?

πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ« It's Book Week!

To get the week rolling, I created this task for my students to have some fun with the books they love and build some writing in by crafting and performing a bio-poem.

1️⃣ Book Collage

1. Collect items that relate to a book that you enjoyed reading

2. Arrange items to create a display

3. Snap a πŸ“Έ of your display

4. Explain, in detail, why you chose each item for your book

2️⃣ Bio-Poem

- Create a bio-poem about a character in your chosen book. A bio-poem is a form of poetry using a prescribed or structured format.

- On each line of your poem provide only the information requested for that line.
For lines 4 to 9, begin the line with the underlined words given and complete with single words or with phrases.

- Optional: Feel like performing? Make a video performing your bio-poem
