ADHD Burnout – There Are Early Warning Signs 🚨

ADHD burnout doesn’t usually come out of nowhere.

There are early warning signs.

The tricky part?

We often don’t pay attention to them.

Because when you have an ADHD brain that feels like it has all the energy in the world…
When your mind is buzzing with ideas…
When you’re in flow…
When you know this energy so well…

It doesn’t feel dangerous.

It feels powerful.

And let’s be honest - this isn’t your first rodeo.

You know the signs.

Sleeping a bit less.
Saying yes to a bit more.
Feeling a little wired.
Running slightly on adrenaline.

But pulling back?

That’s hard.

Even when you know where you might be heading.

Because there’s often a part of us:
The Energiser Bunny 🐰
The “I can do it all” part.
The driven, capable, slightly unstoppable part.

And it’s strong.

Using Internal Family Systems (IFS), instead of shaming that part or trying to shut it down…

I get curious.

What is this part trying to do for me?
What is it afraid would happen if it slowed down?
What does it need from me right now?

Burnout isn’t a personal failure.

It’s often protective parts working overtime.

And sometimes the bravest thing we can do…
Is gently pull back
Before our body forces us to.

If this resonates - I hear you!

We can learn to work with our energiser bunny - not against it 💙

Our beautiful Mia is leaving home. She’s a total legend and we will miss her loads. But she’s truly ready for living with new housemates on the other side of town.

2nd night in a swag and the jury’s still out. I really enjoy parts of camping (like having nothing to do) and other parts not so much.

At Pilates this morning I noticed (…okay, couldn’t help but notice 🤣) a guy who was brand new to reformer Pilates. His coordination, timing, and trying to make sense of what his body should be doing — it was all a bit of a struggle for him.

But here’s what was magic.
The instructor met him exactly where he was at.

She encouraged without overwhelming.
She gave feedback in simple, doable tweaks he could action straight away.
She kept checking in, noticing, guiding, supporting.
No judgement. No pressure. Just presence. Encouragement. Care.

Watching her reminded me of one of my favourite sayings:

✨ “You don’t know what you don’t know — and if you could, you would.” ✨

We all need people who can meet us right at our starting point.
Not where they think we should be…
but where we are.

That’s where growth becomes possible.
That’s where safety builds.
That’s where confidence begins to spark again.

Big, caring hearts.
Gentle guidance.
Next steps we can actually take.

More of this, please. 💙💙💙

Today at the bank, I witnessed something that stayed with me.
A woman who was simply different walked in, and instantly met eye rolls, impatience, and tight, clipped tones from both the teller and the customers around her.

On the outside, it looked like rudeness.
But when you zoom in, it’s more complicated.

I felt protective of her.
And I felt sad for the people reacting that way too.

Because none of us behave like that from our core, wise, grounded self.
Those reactions often come from parts, old protectors that learnt long ago how to keep us safe, in control, or ‘better than’ so we don’t have to feel our own discomfort.

There are no bad parts…
but there are parts that are tired, outdated, or still running old scripts.

So today, my compassion went two ways:
💛 To the woman who was treated on the cusp of disrespect.
💛 And to the people whose protective parts were doing the reacting, probably without them even realising it.

A gentle reminder: We never know someone’s story… not hers, and not theirs.
A little more softness goes a long way

I use this 3 step hack A LOT! Often to get things I find boring, completed. When ADHD brains are procrastinating - they often need any of these four things to get started and finished! In this video I use all four in just ten minutes ⏲️
