Exploring humanity through cinema – Oscar’s PhD in the School of Communication and Creative Arts 06/09/2023

Wonderful to hear Oscar outline his PhD experience at Deakin. For Sean Redmond it has been an absolute pleasure supervising him as they research the affective registers of the films of Michelangelo Antonioni.

"We know that behind every image revealed there is another image more faithful to reality, and in the back of that image there is another, and yet another behind the last one, and so on, up to the true image of that absolute, mysterious reality that no one will ever see" - Antonioni

If you are interested in postgraduate study in film, television and animation at Deakin then do get in touch directly. We supervise on a range of topics including documentary and activism, film and television genre (with special interest in horror and science fiction), film exhibition and archiving, stardom, celebrity and performance, animation and visual effects, auteurs, and new screen technologies including VP, VR and AR. Brilliant discussion for the last part of our masterclass. Is virtual production the right term for the process? What is the future of animation in virtual production? How is AI impacting/augmenting the craft of animation? Some really complex issues.

Panelists - Krista Jordan (AFTRS), Christy Widiarto and Phil Wilkinson (VCA), Jack McGrath (Uni. of Newcastle) and our own Deakin FTVA team Simeon Taylor and Lienors Torre.
