Did you know I built a fish and chip shop, a gelati shop and a bar — and along the way employed over a hundred teenagers from the local community across all 3 businesses.

Most of them walked through the door with zero experience. That never mattered to me. I don’t hire for experience — I hire for attitude. Skills can be taught. Attitude can’t.

Over the years I built a system for turning raw, inexperienced teens into staff who showed up, worked hard and actually cared about the job.

The thing that used to hold me back when I was holding my resume was all the “what ifs.”

What if I get embarrassed?
What if I don’t know what to say?
What if they ask me a question and I freeze?
What if they say no?

The truth is, some of those things might happen. And that’s okay.

You’re not supposed to know everything yet. You’re a junior. You’re learning. You’re doing something for the first time.

Every person with a job now was once the kid nervously walking into a business with a resume in their hand.

Don’t let fear keep you stuck. Walk in anyway. Start the conversation anyway.

Because the other “what if” is…

What if they love you?
What if they give you a chance?
What if it leads to your first job?

You’ll never know if you don’t go.

And trust me, a “no” is nowhere near as scary as wondering “what if” forever. 💛

My little hospo queens have practically grown up behind the counter 💛🧡

From building an ice cream shop and flipping fish and chips to spending time in our bar and learning that the wine label should always face the customer, they’ve been soaking up hospitality lessons from day one.

They’re still only 10 and 12, but I can already see the confidence, work ethic and people skills they’ll carry with them wherever life takes them.

Some lessons are learned in a classroom.
Others are learned behind a counter.

So not cool mum. So not cool.
