National Sushi Day at Nido Early School Yallambie!

Yesterday, our Fill-In Cook and Nursery Room Leader, Miss Nicole, prepared delicious homemade sushi for the children and educators to enjoy for lunch as we celebrated National Sushi Day.

Throughout the experience, the children explored the ingredients used to make sushi, discussed healthy food choices, and learned about Japanese culture and traditions. This hands-on learning opportunity encouraged curiosity, sensory exploration, and an appreciation of foods from around the world.

Experiences such as these help children develop cultural awareness, confidence in trying new foods, and an understanding of healthy eating habits in a fun and meaningful way.

A big thank you to Miss Nicole for creating such a wonderful learning experience for our children and team.

Today at Nido Early School, we were fortunate to welcome Wayapa Wuurrk for a special workshop with our children focused on the importance of connecting with the Earth.

To begin our experience together, the children participated in an Acknowledgement to Country, showing respect for the Traditional Custodians of the land. Throughout the workshop, the children enthusiastically engaged in storytelling, movement, and song, learning about caring for Country and deepening their understanding of First Nations culture and perspectives.

It was a meaningful and enriching experience that supported the children in developing an early appreciation for our First Nations peoples, their connection to the land, and the importance of caring for the world around us. ๐Ÿ’š

At Nido Early School Yallambie, we are proud to recognise and celebrate Reconciliation Week with a meaningful display created by our Nursery children.

Using their handprints, the children created beautiful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags to honour and celebrate Australiaโ€™s First Nations peoples. They also decorated a special sign showing hands joined together, representing that we stand hand in hand with our First Nations people โ€” with respect, unity, and reconciliation at the heart of our community.

We are incredibly proud of the care, creativity, and thought the children put into this display, which will remain at the front of our centre throughout Reconciliation Week for everyone to enjoy.

We hope you love our display as much as we do and stand hand in hand with us as we continue to learn, grow, and walk together toward reconciliation ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿค

At Nido Early School Yallambie, building strong connections with our families is at the heart of everything we do. To commemorate ANZAC Day, we were delighted to host a special ANZAC biscuit cooking experience with Chef Walter. Our children and families came together to learn how to make these traditional treats, sharing stories, laughter, and meaningful moments along the way. It was wonderful to see everyone connecting with one another and with our educators, while enjoying some delicious homemade biscuits. Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the day so special.

Lest we forget

At Nido Early School Yallambie as part of our Earth Day activities, the Toddler 2 room explored a sensory leaf experience. This hands-on activity supported the children in connecting with nature as they touched, felt, and explored the textures of the leaves. Through shared discussions about colours and seasons, the children developed an emerging understanding of the natural world, while also enhancing their sensory awareness and language development, as well as engaging and building connections to nature.
