Remember when we opened the brand new playground at Penders Park with a $300,000 investment from the State Labor Government?

The flying foxes, trampolines, teepee, climbing roles and spinner have made such a difference to this community space.

Now we have the chance to put our local ideas forward for even more amazing park upgrades – or for turning unused land into new ones!

Sign the Petition Stop McDonald's from Opening in Northcote

Maccas in the midst of High Street Northocote?

Recently we learned that McDonald’s has submitted this planning application to Darebin Council.

Personally, I don’t think it’s the right fit in the heart of our unique strip.

High Street Northcote isn’t just a place - it’s a community with a unique, eclectic identity built over decades of love, courage and determination.

I’ve spoken so many times about our magical mix - and why we’re crowned the coolest street in the world.

It’s the cafés that know your order, the indie shops full of character, the live music venues giving local artists their first stage.

We are proudly environmentally and socially conscious. We bring people together to create and share.

At its core, it’s because we love Northcote.

It’s true that everyone experiences High Street differently, and the old Stuzzi site has been derelict for years.

But a McDonald’s will undoubtedly change the feel of the street we all love - and cut across the work so many have done to cultivate a truly unique offering here.

This will ultimately be a decision of Darebin City Council and I’ll be speaking with them directly to convey the sentiments of our community.

As this progresses, I’ll also share information on their planning process and how to have your say.
