What NOT to ask your child after school ✨

We are all FAR too used to the classic answer to ‘How was your day?’
‘Good.’

Try these questions instead to mix things up in the car on the way home.

School is starting SO soon! What other questions help you connect with your child? Let us know in the comments 👇🏼

Swipe ➡️ for three practice runs to avoid a first-day-of-school-frenzy. 🙅🏼‍♀️💨Is there anything else you wish you practiced before your little one’s first day?!

Use the next couple weeks and build their confidence by…practicing these skills before first day at school.

Remember to take it slow though. Be careful not to overwhelm your child and try to cram all this into one sitting. Break it up over a few days and make it fun, “We are practicing our skills for big school! Can you put your shoes on independently before we go out today? I’m still here to help if you need it.”

Which skill will you start with?

Let’s brainstorm this one together 💭

Sensory regulation is something we all do as our brain and body responds and adapts to different incoming inputs from the world around us… 🌎

Some little learners need more input in their ‘bucket’ to stay engaged, while others need less. Our needs can look different in new environments, but generally have the same pattern. (More on this in our latest reel 💦🪣)

Swipe for tips on how you can support as a parent ➡️➡️➡️

This week we are talking sensory regulation and our little learners. We’ll use the analogy of a bucket to ask a question… what fills your child’s ‘sensory bucket’? 💦🪣

We all need sensory input to keep us focussed, alert and engaged throughout the day.. Think movement, auditory, tactile, visual, and oral sensory input. If your child’s bucket isn’t full (or is too full), learning is not going to happen! There’ll be a lotta tears and frustration from everyone.

Let’s avoid that.

🌟 Identify things throughout the day that are joyful and calming – listening to music, getting big bear hugs, hearing the schedule, eating a crunchy snack, listening to nature sounds, playing with a fidget toy, drinking from a straw cup, jumping on the trampoline, resting on the couch.

Your goal?

🌟 Keep the ‘bucket’ at the just right level. The more focus and learning that is demanded of your learner, the emptier that bucket is going to get!! Play the fill and empty game by interspersing learning tasks with sensory breaks to keep the ‘sensory bucket’ from getting empty.

Pro Tip… don’t forget to fill your cup too! 💗🍷
