Our first Varroa Management Workshop is done. π
On 15 August, we welcomed a full house for our pilot workshop, focused on something we think is important: learning how to manage Varroa.
The session combined discussion with practical, hands-on learning, including hive inspections, alcohol washes, understanding how Varroa is detected, and working through different treatment options and management strategies.
And the feedback from our first group has been fantastic.
βVery informative and hands on experience. Would recommend it to anyone unsure about the handling of Varroa.β
βA clear step by step coverage of the management strategies... followed by a practical hive inspection & alcohol wash.β
βWe learned about the mite and how it is transferred throughout the hive... and the various treatments available.β
A big thank you to everyone who travelled to join us, asked questions and helped make our first workshop a success.
This was our pilot session, and we're looking forward to refining the workshop and running more sessions to help beekeepers feel more prepared to manage Varroa in their own hives.
Varroa is something we need to take seriously β but it doesn't need to be something we fear.
