Hi there TTA Inspectors. Remember that switchboard wiring can be any colour except green/ yellow.
Amendment 3 of AS/NZS 3000:2018 allows wiring within a switchboard enclosure to be any colour.
However, this becomes confusing when red neutral conductors, as switchboard wiring, are connected with black neutral conductors, used as installation wiring.
Also, switching the supply neutral is prohibited as this PEN conductor provides the earthing for a TNCS earthing system for Australia.
So for those LEI’s studying for their safe approach assessment, watch out for these issues.
Andrew.

Hi there TTA Electrical Inspectors.
Did you know that switchboard wiring is not classified as installation wiring?
Yes, there is an exception in AS/NZS 3000:2018. See attached Notes 2.
Not that electricians do this practice in the field. So, for those LEI candidates studying for their safe approach assessment, watch out for black actives and red neutral conductors in their construction switchboards.
The conductor colours within a construction switchboard enclosure can be any colour, except green/ yellow. 👍

On a recent LEI inspection, an LEI discovered that fire rated cables were joined without fire rated heat shrink and fire rated stainless steel cables. Not to mention, the REC did not stagger the joins. Rather they were terminated a grouped and bunched together.
These cable were inspected because safety services are connected on the live side of the general main switch. ESGR 2019 Regulation 249 (1) (i)

Are you looking for a learning environment and learning materials that suit your needs? Look no further than TTA. We are the experts.
TTA offers the best LEA and LEI training environment for Apprentices and Inspectors with ADHD, ASD, dylslexia, anxiety, all those hidden invisible challenges. We understand and our training materials and classrooms are designed to assist you.
TTA trainers sit next to you, there are no silly questions. It’s a relaxing non traditional set up. We understand how electricians learn best.
In classrooms around the world, many students are expected to learn in environments that were not designed with their brains in mind. They are asked to sit still for long periods, process large amounts of information quickly, follow complex instructions, and organize tasks independently. For some students, those expectations are manageable.
For others, they can become constant barriers.
A student with ADHD may struggle with attention regulation, task initiation, or working memory. A student with anxiety might experience overwhelming pressure during tests or presentations. A student with dyslexia may need more time to process written information.
None of these challenges mean the student is less intelligent or less capable. It simply means they may need different tools to demonstrate what they know.
This is where accommodations become important.
Extra time on tests, clearer instructions, structured support, flexible learning approaches are not advantages. They are adjustments that help remove barriers that were never visible to begin with.
Students with invisible disabilities are given the 1;1 training style, in small groups, these supports allow them to succeed.
Accessibility is not about giving someone special treatment.
It is about making sure everyone has a fair chance to reach the same door.
And sometimes the difference between struggling and succeeding is not intelligence or effort.
Sometimes it is simply whether the right support was offered.
