The Australian String Quartet (ASQ), founded in 1985, is a prominent chamber music group based at the University of Adelaide, known for its exceptional performances and unique 18th-century Guadagnini instruments.
History and Formation
The ASQ was established in 1985 by violinists William Hennessey and Douglas Weiland, violist Keith Crellin, and cellist Janis Laurs. Over the years, the quartet has undergone several personnel changes, with the current members being Dale Barltrop (violin), Francesca Hiew (violin), Christopher Cartlidge (viola), and Michael Dahlenburg (cello). The quartet is recognized as the Quartet-in-Residence at the University of Adelaide’s Elder Conservatorium, where they engage in educational initiatives and community outreach.
Chime Choir - welcome to our community choir in Melbourne
Chime Choir started in 1984 as a choir for girls and young adults, as well as boys. Forty years later, we are a diverse group with singers from many backgrounds and experiences, dedicated to performing heartfelt choral music that challenges and delights. We're based in Melbourne and perform regularly across the city, with tours throughout Victoria, Australia and internationally.
