We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and you're heading into the new term feeling refreshed, recharged and ready to go!

Just a quick reminder to our Ohana families that Monday 5 October is the King’s Birthday Public Holiday, so there’ll be no school on Monday.

Another term in the books! 📚 We’re so proud of the effort, growth and achievements we’ve seen from our Ohana students throughout Term 3.

To our students, families and staff — thank you for another fantastic term and for continuing to make our Ohana community what it is. 💚

🥋 Was your weekend as good as Ruby’s?! 🥇🥈

Year 8 student, Ruby, had an incredible weekend competing at the Karate 2026 Queensland State Championships — and came away with not one, but TWO medals! 🙌

🥈 Silver in Kata (a sequence of choreographed karate techniques, judged on skill, technique and precision)

🥇 Gold in Kumite (a sparring event where competitors go head-to-head and score points using controlled karate techniques)

Ruby has been doing karate for five years and absolutely loves the sport. It was a long day of competition, but a very rewarding one 💪

Congratulations, Ruby! We’re so proud to celebrate this amazing achievement with you! 🥋🏆

Just a friendly reminder to our Ohana families that Term 3 wraps up on Friday, 18 September.

It’s been another busy term filled with learning, growth, activities, celebrations and plenty of memorable moments along the way. 💚

🌈 CHECK OUT OUR COLOUR RUNNERS! 🌈

We had WAY too many colourful moments from our Queensland Child Protection Week Carnival Day to fit into one post… so here’s round two! 📸🙌

Our young people (and a few brave staff!) took on the Colour Run and came out looking a little more colourful than when they started. 😆🎨

🌈 SAFE. SUPPORTED. CONNECTED. 💛

What a way to celebrate Queensland Child Protection Week! Our Carnival Day brought our whole College community together for a huge day focused on connection, belonging, wellbeing and creating safe, supportive spaces for young people — with plenty of fun thrown in too!

The day was packed with action — a Colour Run, petting zoo, face painting, fairy floss, slushies, sausage sizzle, dancing and plenty of fun in the sun! 🙌🌈

Queensland Child Protection Week is an important reminder that keeping young people safe is everyone’s responsibility. It’s about building communities where young people feel heard, respected and supported, know where to turn when they need help, and have trusted people around them who will listen and look out for their wellbeing. 💛

A huge thank you to our Youth Workers, Chloe and Brittany, for all the planning, energy and hard work that went into making the day happen! ✨

We were also so grateful to have Griffith University, yourtown, Wesley Mission Queensland, Relationships Australia Queensland, Youth Off The Streets, Open Doors Youth Service and Mylestones Employment join us for the day. Thank you for showing up for our young people, sharing your support and helping us celebrate the strong network of people and services working to keep young people safe, supported and connected 🫶🏼

💛 R U OK? Day 💛

Sometimes the most important conversations start with three simple words: “Are you OK?”

R U OK? Day is a reminder to check in with our friends, classmates, colleagues and the people around us — because you never really know what someone might be going through.

💬 Not sure how to start? Try this:

👉 Ask – “Hey, you haven’t seemed yourself lately. Are you OK?”
👂 Listen – Give them your full attention and let them talk without judgement.
🤝 Encourage action – Help them think about someone they trust who they could speak with.
🔄 Check in – Send them a message or have another chat a few days later.

And remember, checking in doesn’t have to be awkward or serious. A chat while walking to class, sitting at lunch or hanging out with a mate can be the perfect opportunity.

At Ohana College, we want our young people to know that it’s OK to speak up, it’s OK to ask for support, and it’s always OK to check in on a mate. 💛

🎓 Exploring pathways beyond Ohana!

A big thank you to Josh and Teagan from Griffith University for visiting our Year 12 students to introduce them to the EmpowerEd Program and explore the university pathways and opportunities available beyond Ohana College.

It was fantastic to see our students engaged in conversations about their futures, leaving the session feeling excited and inspired, with a greater understanding of the many possibilities available to them after graduation.

We encourage students and families to keep an eye out for upcoming communication with further information about the EmpowerEd Program and next steps.

Thank you to Griffith University for supporting our young people as they begin to plan for life beyond Year 12! 🎓✨
