Many thanks to Sara Kindberg Adelskov & Melanie Francis from Gynzone for facilitating a workshop on diagnosing perineal tears today. Fabulous to see the collaborative learning between midwifery lecturers. 3rd year students, midwives and technician partners. Midwifery@Griffith has used the innovative Gynzone online platform since 2017, the first Australian university to embed jn undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

We are very proud of our midwifery team at Griffith University who were well represented at the National Australian College of Midwives (ACM) conference on the Gold Coast. As gold sponsors of the conference we presented our leading educational and midwifery practice based research. Marnie McDonald & Amanda Carter (ACM Board member) presented on our student-led midwifery clinic, Hannah Ellen McCallum & Sam Nolan presented on midwifery placements in Child Health, Carolyn Hastie on her work on teamwork, Valerie Slavin on water immersion in labour, Ryan Fraser-McDonald on neonatal early warning tools & Tanisha Springallon lactation education for First Nations midwives. In addition many of our PhD, Honours & Masters students presented including Ephrem Yohannes, Elsa F*k Chan, Rachael Austin, with numerous BMid students volunteering to help run the conference.

💕💕 What else would you ban from the birth room? I’d add having the bed as the focal point in the middle of the room

Birth rooms should feel safe, private and centred around the woman giving birth, not the convenience, conversations or opinions of everyone else in the room.

The way we speak, move, enter, touch, explain and make space matters. Women remember how they were made to feel during birth.

And for the record, “you’re not allowed” has no place in a conversation about a woman’s own body.

Protect the woman. Protect the space 🩷
