Year 9 students recently took part in the Languages Expo, showcasing their learning to the wider school community.
Hallways were filled with students exploring stalls representing different countries and highlighting aspects of culture, traditions and lifestyle. There was strong engagement and clear enthusiasm from students in both the preparation and sharing of their learning.
Congratulations to all students involved for their creativity, commitment and effort in bringing the expo to life.

🎶 Our recent VCE Years 11 and 12 Music Nights showcased a diverse range of instrumental performances, showcasing repertoire prepared as part of students' major recital programs.
The performances reflected the significant preparation required for these assessments, as well as the growth, refinement, and musical maturity students have developed throughout the semester.
Congratulations to all performers on the commitment, focus and dedication they have shown in preparing for their major recitals. We wish them every success as they continue towards their final assessments.

Last Thursday, the Winter Senior Round Robin was held across a variety of venues in the Kingston area.
Congratulations to our Girls & Boys Badminton teams and Girls Soccer team, who have all progressed through to the Southern Metro Finals next term.
Our Boys Football and Girls A Netball teams will face Parkdale in their upcoming matches, with a place in the SMR Finals on the line next term.

Congratulations to Luke Kennedy (Class of 2024), who will make his AFL debut for the Western Bulldogs tonight against the Adelaide Crows at Marvel Stadium!
Drafted straight out of Year 12 in the 2024 AFL National Draft, Luke has put together a number of strong performances at VFL level for Footscray in recent weeks, including 17 disposals and 15 tackles against Box Hill last weekend. Luke was also part of Footscray’s 2025 premiership team.
Such a proud moment for Luke and his family as he reaches the AFL stage. The entire McKinnon Secondary College community will be cheering you on tonight! ❤️💙🤍

On Friday 15 May, students from McKinnon Secondary College, Avila College, OLSH, South Oakleigh College and St Bede’s College participated in a Model UN conference on the theme “Rewrite the Future: Quality Education for All.”
The day opened with a welcome address from former Australian Ambassador to the United Nations, Amanda Gorely, followed by student-led debates, negotiations and resolution-building as delegates represented different nations and explored global barriers to education.
Students took part in lively caucuses, sharing ideas ranging from improving access to technology to enhancing teacher training, before working collaboratively to develop a final resolution. The experience strengthened their public speaking, teamwork and ability to compromise.

⚾🏆 Congratulations to the Year 11 and 12 Senior Boys Baseball Team, who are the Victorian State Baseball Champions!!
The team worked hard to stay in tight games, earning the opportunity to defeat Melbourne High School in the final. There were bombs hit, ripping catches taken in the field, triple plays made, and concentration and patience shown on the pitching mound.

Congratulations to the Year 12 Theatre Studies class on their production of The Unravelling by Fin Kennedy. Set in an east London fabric shop, the play follows the daughters challenged by their dying mother to weave the greatest story from scraps of cloth, competing for both the shop and the power to shape their own futures.
The performance showcased impressive collaboration and was immersive from start to finish, reflecting the students’ creativity and dedication.

🎨Year 9 Art students at McKinnon East Campus have completed a stunning series of watercolour portraits and self-portraits after spending Terms 1 and 2 developing their artistic skills and techniques.
Inspired by portrait artists and the Archibald Prize, students explored composition, watercolour techniques and mixed media to create expressive final pieces full of individuality and creativity. The finished artworks showcased an impressive range of styles and reflected the dedication and effort students put into the unit.

🌍 McKinnon students have once again excelled on the global stage in the 2026 Education Perfect Global Languages Championship. This prestigious international competition gave students the opportunity to showcase their language skills and linguistic prowess.
McKinnon students took us to 2nd in the world - an outstanding achievement! The school also finished 1st in Victoria, 1st in the world in 🇷🇺Russian, 3rd in the world for 🇫🇷French and 3rd in Australia for 🇪🇸Spanish.
Thanks to all the language leaders and language teachers who ran lunchtime sessions for the 5 days of the competition.

Year 8 students had an unforgettable time at Kinglake Adventure Camp across two exciting weeks in late April and early May.
From rock climbing and the leap of faith to the thrilling free fall, students challenged themselves, built confidence and created lasting memories with their peers. Evenings were filled with fun activities, while the beautiful forest surroundings provided the perfect setting for team-building adventures.
A great experience and plenty of memorable moments for our Year 8 students. 🌿🏕️
